Tracking Saban's Replacement Thread

Was just in a meeting with a Clemson grad and he basically stated the same thing.
Brought up a good point as far as the CFP / FSU debate this year - meaning if an undefeated ACC Champ doesn't make it into the CFP, then what is the perception of the ACC now. Surely it's not what it once was and definitely not on the same level as the SEC or B1G.

Could a job change to the SEC be the motivation that Dabo is looking for personally?
We've all faced it - like our current job, but just not overly excited about it any longer.
Go to the same job at a new company and all of the sudden you are growing and revitalized...might the track for Dabo.

Question becomes now is Greg Byrne crazy enough to take a risk on a guy that seems to be complacent at his current situation and has publicly made commetns that are not seen as positive with regard to NIL and Transfer Portal?
I see why the ACC teams would be mad about their conference getting the cold shoulder this year. But going forward with the 12-team playoff, their conference champion is automatic and the best ACC team arguably has the easiest path into the CFP.

Good counter-point. ACC basically comes down to FSU and Clemson and the occasional rabble rouser like Duke, UNC, Wake Forest...that in mind it might be best for Dabo to stick it out at Clemson.

Oregon has been used as a stepping stone job for decades. I think he has genuine interest. Doesn’t mean he’ll take it in the end if offered, but I don’t think he’s just trying to get a raise from Oregon.
Pac 12 Oregon sure.

Big 10 Oregon? Different atmosphere now with them in the Big 10 and a 12 team playoff. Same with Sark or any other coach at a good football program. The obvious advantages of leaving no longer exist.

With Lanning out, there's more than a few nervous mattresses in Oxford Mississippi.

You might be right, but my guess is there will also be a flash mob at the mattress stores in Tallahassee, if Norvell is seen driving across the Alabama state line. Dabo, like someone earlier said, still has his cell phone charging and on his chest. Kif has some baggage that just might not be acceptable to some bammer biggies.

I'm starting to be a Norvell lean as a compromise to internally battling bama kingpins. FSU and the ACC are a football mess.

People really believed that goober in Eugene who ran with the “Lanning is in Tuscaloosa” story. I don’t miss going through that stuff here.

but it's about the money distribution in the ACC

I seriously hope Saban absolutely says NO. Kiffin with bama's resources would be a serious problem.

Whatever Kiffin's issues are he absolutely can recruit and coach. Please keep him at Ol Piss.

Besides, Kiffin has been waiting and praying for this job to finally come up and him be in a position to take it. Its perfect. No one thinks OM is his final destination and he has shown he can turn things around even there.

Please God, bestow your mercy on us and make sure Kiffin stays right where he is (though Im sure he will probably get ANOTHER couple of million out of this).
Even without Saban there, he knows everyone in a power position. He ran Kiffin out the door. Idk what the back story is although I know the accusations but Kiffin isn’t getting a whiff there imho.

Dabo has always been the most logical candidate in my mind. He's a proven champion at a big program, he's from the state of Alabama,
played for bama, and coached for bama before leaving for Clemson. Why would bama want Lanning--who has won nothing--in the first place
rather than Dabo? Makes no sense to me. Saban had already achieved a lot before taking the bama job--he'd won a national title at LSU, coached in the NFL (badly, but still...). Dabo has likewise achieved a lot. He may not want the pressure of following Saban--but it's his school, and given Clemson's recent struggles and the weak reputation of the ACC, this actually seems like the perfect time for him to jump.

I don't see Sark leaving. Texas is in a great spot to compete right away in the SEC.
