Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Ryan Ludwick is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.
There's nothing official yet, but the San Diego Union-Tribune is hearing rumblings that "a trade could be going down." Jon Heyman of SI.com reported this morning that the Phillies, Braves, Reds and Indians were all pursuing the 33-year-old outfielder. There's a good chance he'll be dealt before the July 31 deadline.

If Walt makes a deal for that crap outfielder, he should be shown the door along with Dusty.

Quentin's numbers .262 .353 .510 || 20 HR, 62 RBI

Still want pence, but Quentin would be better than Ludwick or Willingham

Pence would be ideal, but I'd love to have Quentin. If they could also add Ludwick for some power and depth I wouldn't mind so much, but he would not solve any problems.

The Phillies make a lot of sense for Ludwick or Willingham.

From Jayson Stark:

Interest in Pence exploding since Beltran trade (Phillies, Braves, Reds, Red Sox). Astros have "open mind. More in Rumor Central #trades

I can't help but notice that Jocketty's free agent strategy seems to encompass bringing on guys that were in St. Louis when he was there.

Just an outsider's observation.

He definitely values those that he has a previous relationship with.

We'll see how the great Cardinal trade works soon enough I guess. I've had several friends try to convince me it was a good deal in the short-term and we have enough to cover long-term.

I guess I just dont' see how Jackson turns this team into a serious contender. They may win the division by default, but that's it.

I don't think that trade really made the Cards any better in the short term. Definitely doesn't guarantee that they beat out the brewers.

From Heyman:

There's a sense out there that if #phillies sub domonic brown for singleton and include cosart they might land pence. #tradedeadline

fuuuuuu

I haven't heard one person who I would consider objective say anything but it was a bad trade for St. Louis.

Why would thay? The only part I like is getting bull pen help from Marc Rzepczynski. He's a solid set up guy and we needed that. But Rasmus value was much greater than what we got. Dotel isn't bad in the pen either. But we reaslly needed a starter. Just made no sense. Note to all Card players, if TL doesn't want you in STL then pack your bags. Unless your name is Pujols of course and hell he'll probably be gone in the off season too.

Luckily, as a Nationals fan, I get to sit back and watch. Without silly worry about "playoff races" and "chances at the postseason." We may try to get a long-term solution in CF, but other than that, I can watch better teams squirm and Bryce Harper's High-A stats with pride.

Lots of rumors about Span being sent to Washington for Storen and maybe Bernadina.

I've heard Storen, and then heard he's not available, then heard that's what it'll take.. etc. etc.

As much as I preach "a lotta guys can get 3 outs, closers are tradeable," I really would hate to see Storen go. Electric kid.

I doubt anyone besides the Astros, and cubs are concerned about the "powerhouse" that the natinals are "building"

If all else fails maybe Freddie can aquire his former SS and rekindle their romance.

Wouldn't that be a coup? Hanley seems to be a real jerk and could/would cause clubhouse problems, but would certainly improve the lineup. RH, five tool player that plays a premium position. Would be a real difference maker. In the end though, not worth the costs or headaches.
