Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

If all else fails maybe Freddie can aquire his former SS and rekindle their romance.

Fredi has stated he live gonzo's D, which is all he has but it is very good. Everything I have read says pastorwinky(sp) should be called up from AAA Gwinnett, he was moved up from AA miss. earlier this season. Almost like Freeman was used last year, Just get his feet wet and wait until spring training.

My question is... Why are we not trying to get Marlon BYRD, bring the hometown kid home! If we are gonna give away our pitching prospects might as well make it worth while, I know he is at peak trade value but you can only hold four aces and call for a while, gotta bet on it sometime. I would imagine the cubs need some good prospect with were they are in the standing... Just am not sure if their need is pitching.

That's the thing, they are not willing to give up the pitching prospects. That's all that's being the holdup getting a deal done for the Braves.

Official: Hunter Pence to the Phillies. Astros receive Jonathan Singleton and Jarrod Cosart along with two PBTNLs.

SO, the Astros got a future ace and all star potential bat. That's a good deal.

And the Phils are now the favorites for the WS.

So, whats the thought about the Braves? Make a deal and try to improve this offense, or rely on the arms to get you to the post season and bow out in the first round?

Sounds like Atlanta is beginning to pick up steam on getting Coco Crisp from the A's. Almost anyone would be an improvement over McLouth for the Braves.

Here's the conumdrum

The Braves are dumping Lowe after this year. One way or another. That leaves a rotation spot belived to be filled by Teheran.

The problem is the Braves might wait till the offseason and get a big bat then, when they could trade JJ. That leaves another spot open. Minor is ready to take over. If you trade Minor, that leaves you with Delgado and Vizcaino. Vizcaino has a ton of injury problems, and Delgado needs just a little bit more seasoning in 2012 before being ML ready.

So, that's the issue.

You're leaving out Medlen.

I keep reading he's going to the bullpen for at least next year.

Would be a waste, IMO. He proved last year he's a good ML starter. The Tommy John surgery is a red flag, but these days what pitcher hasn't underwent that procedure?

Wow....now why would they trade JJ?

A few reasons:

1) He doesn't have great stuff. He's due for a natural regression and that while he's having an ace year this year, he's not an ace (I disagree). But other teams might covet him as an ace.

2) He has an injury history. Not a big one. But enough to where you are a little nervous.

3) He's going to get a huge raise in arbitration. The Braves are a little tight about money.

4) We have tons of arms in the minors who are cheaper, under longer team control, and some feel could be better.

5) He could bring in a big bat. Which Atlanta needs.

Teheran, Delgado, Minor, Vizcaino, Oberholtzer, Spurill, and Clemens all have higher upside.

I agree Medlen can be a starter. But he can be a good piece in the bullpen.

interesting points, we shall see. We need a big bat now though. This staff is too good from top to bottom to make this year a waste.

Totally agree.

Also, he's a Boras client. Boras can be an ass negotiating.

The Braves did inquire about Pence and also to see if the White Sox were interested in trading Carlos Quentin. But it seems they are more likely to acquire Rays’ outfielder B.J. Upton or Padres’ outfielder Ryan Ludwick before Sunday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline arrives.
Upton could serve as the club’s leadoff hitter and starting centerfielder. But even with Schafer and McLouth sidelined, they may still target Ludwick, who would primarily play the corner outfield positions. But he is athletic enough to play center field if necessary. – Mark Bowman

Yes! UPTON!!!

Not in the leadoff spot though. That's dumb.

We don't have a true leadoff hitter. I wouldn't mind letting him leadoff the rest of the year.

Didn't say he was. We don't have anyone on the roster that can hit leadoff either. He'd be a better leadoff hitter than Schafer

K%: Upton- 24.6 Schafer- 19.1

OBP: Upton- .309 Schafer- .307

CS: Upton- 7 Schafer- 4

HR: Upton- 16 Schafer- 1

SLG: .Upton- .403 Schafer- .316

Upton would be a perfect fit in the 6/7 spot. Upton does have a good walk %, but we need his power in the lower spot of the lineup.
