Alonso hasn't exactly turned into the huge bat he was drafted as and the reds are leading the nl in runs scored.

true but they really only have 2 hitters that really scare anybody. they need another bat or they are not going anywhere.

We do need a lf but we need another good starter much more. Ubaldo fills that role for the next 2.5 years at a bargain rate.

can't argue that, but the last 2 months the reds runs are down compared to april and may. if the reds could get a good LF or 3rd basemen i think they would have to atleast entertain. i understand what you are saying though. the bargain rate is key in cincy, they probably won't add much payroll.

Exactly who would be this upgrade at 3rd you are talking about?

Jiminez has replaced Francisco Liriano as the most overrated pitcher in the game. The Reds would be better served fixing left field by trading Alonso and Wood to fill that hole and sending a marginal prospect or two to Washington for Livan.

Liriano isn't that over-rated IMO, he's been straight hot garbage 2 of the last 3 years

Given the fact Jiminez has performed well for one half of his three full and two half seasons the Reds would be getting the short end of the multi player trade.

That's how Jiminez replaced him. People finally figured out Liriano is nothing special. They haven't clued in just yet on Ubaldo.

There are guys throughout the history of the game that stood 60'6" away that showed flashes of brilliance for a season, maybe even two, that just flat out weren't that good.

I think Ubaldo fits comfortably in that group.

I'm shocked about how people are acting as if Ubaldo Jiminez is the 1996 version of Kevin Brown. He's a so so pitcher. Giving up top level prospects for him is crazy.

Teams will always overpay for mediocre payers in desperation at the deadline. It's a law of baseball.

I would take him, but not for near what the reds are willing to give up for him. He's worth a couple of tweener guys who may crack the bigs at some point.

They said during the Braves game about a rumor of Lowe may possibly get traded.. That would be a dream come true for me!

I think people are overrating Alonso and underrating Ubaldo. Alonso isnt as highly touted as he was a year ago. He's probably the Reds fifth best prospect right now. Ubaldo isn't an ace, but he is an upgrade over 3/5ths of the rotation we currently have and if you believe in stats like FIP and xFIP he has pitched much better than his era indicates.

The mets are willing to pick up the rest of beltrans salary if they can get a good prospect for him.

I don't think Ubaldo is over-rated and surely not under-rated. He's somewhere in between

55-44 career record with a career ERA of 3.60.

When people are using ubaldo and livan hernandez in the same breath, ubaldo is being underrated.

Not going to be worth the prospects that a team will have to give up to get him, unless your pitching sucks 3-5 IMO. Can't believe the Rockies are going to trade him.
