Which is utterly stupid because not even Halladay got that sort of package back.

If the market allows for it, then you ask for it. They're not running a Big Lots sale like the Wilpons are.

Indication is that Levine will tell Cashman to get a starter, and a few more implosions will increase the calls. Might as well set a high opening price, knowing you're in a position to make demands.

True. One has been a workhorse for 15 years and won big games and the other guy has been good for 3/4 of a season in his career.

Calling him a workhorse is funny....he's been garbage for a good while now

The Rockies are holding all of the cards in any Ubaldo deal.

1. They don't have to trade him.
2. He's under contract to them through 2014 at a reasonable rate.

When he's on, he's a great, front-end of the rotation starter and an excellent value for what he's currently paid. When he's not at his best, he's still a 3rd/4th starter making 3rd/4th starter money. As of this moment, he's the best starting pitcher on the market where several teams are looking for starting pitching. Rockies are aiming high right now, probably hoping someone will panic and overpay. If I'm the Yankees, I don't do the Montero + Nova + Betances + Banuelos deal either unless they get more from the Rockies than just Ubaldo (add in perhaps Wigginton and Betancourt). One more thing to remember: Ubaldo pitches half of his games in Coors Field, not exactly a pitcher friendly environment.

I would say Ubaldo has been great for 3/4ths of a season and been better than anyone not named Johnny Cueto on our staff the rest of his career. Giving up Alonso and Wood isn't a very high price to pay for a clear upgrade in the rotation for the next 3 years.

I like Livan and wouldn't mind picking him up as a backup plan, but Ubaldo is much the much better pitcher at this point. Ubaldo has been a workhorse the last 3 years too pitching 637.4 innings over that time span.

I really like Ubaldo as a pitcher. He has a great combination of velocity and movement, and has shown the flashes of brilliance. Get him out of Coors and who knows what he could develop into.

Out of coors would be somewhat equalized by facing the AL east and yankee stadium.
