When you are trying to make a playoff run in the Dodgers situation you will swallow your pride and take your losses. Either way Pierre doesn't have the arm to play right or center on a consistent basis.

Joe's not stupid. He played his vets in NY when he had loyalty to them. Pierre is not Bernie Williams. He wasn't producing and he won't play over talent.

So the Red Sox gave up three players (including Manny Ramirez) and $7m for eight months of Jason Bay?

Man. That's a lot to pay to get rid of a headache.

The Sox really paid a lot to get rid of Manny. I'm so pleased to get rid of Hansen (he was just bad news hanging around) and Manny needed to be gone. I think that Manny is a great player...but he has some serious issues in the head and it was time. I don't think that the Sox did the best they could do in this trade, but I'm glad Manny is gone....that is what he wanted and it is what the team needed.

really surprised that Beane held on to Duke and Street. Of course, both have struggled mightily since returning from the All-Star Break, but the whole team has, so what's new.

Street will be available for arbitration after next year, so one more year as an A isn't a bad thing I guess. He's a semi-good closer that's still got room to develop. Duke isn't available until 2010. Who knows what could happen with the A's in the next two years. I'm glad both are still A's.

actually i'm downright giddy.

If the A's can find some pop in the lineup somewhere, we could be really really good either next year or especially in 2010. Not that he'll help in 2010, but FYI, the Big Hurt should be off the DL and playing tomorrow. Saturday at the latest.

But basically this means Felipe Lopez will be DFA'd this year.

It was no big deal . . . There was a problem with a link that got posted that was screwing up the page width and making it where you had to use a scroll bar to see the far right side of the page.

You happened to have quoted the post which created the problem so along with the original post, I had to edit your post so the page would go back to normal width. :good!:
