possible lil deal involving the Reds.If the Reds trade Ken Griffey Jr. to the White Sox then they could go after Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, who is tearing up Triple A Oklahoma but is blocked at the big league level. The Rangers could also try to move outfielder Marlon Byrd and make room for Cruz. The Rangers are still talking to the Marlins about catcher Gerald Laird. The Reds are also interested.

Cruz likely won't change anything for this franchise's future. He is killing the ball in AAA (.700+ slugging) but he is 28 already and hasn't done to great when he has had cups of coffee in the majors. He could be a solid replacement guy though with some decent potential. If the Reds can pick up Cruz and either Hellickson or Niemann, this will be looked at as the day the franchise finally turned around

Getting Helickson would have been amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if the D'Backs came back with one more offer. All true, but he bats right and could be a good addition to the lineup, at least until Alonso is up and Votto moves into the OF. I was actually more excited about Niemann or Hellickson, but doesn't look like that will be happening.
2:02pm: Rob Bradford of the Boston Herald says the Braves asked for a pitching prospect for Ohman, and the Red Sox passed.
With the three-way deal between the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins falling through, an MLB.com source says that the Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for Minor League prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. The Rays have not confirmed the deal.
