Transfer Portal 21-22

The one thing that seems to be obvious is we are reaching out in the portal for another scoring type 2-3 player. First there was Briggs who settled on Maryland and now Jackson. If she decides elsewhere there will be others we seem determined to find an experienced scoring player for that position.

I believe we need another post because that would allow Karo to move to the stretch spot and would allow her to play the 5 in some instances. I think it also frees TK up to play more freely and when she isn't concerned about fouls we see the force she can be when she wants to be.

Also, another scoring person allows us to play 4 out 1 in with someone like Jackson or Jordy who can post up or get in there and rebound.

Thought it all along, but haven't seen any evidence that were going in that direction to this point. Only two scholarships to give unless someone is leaving and it is always a 2-3 player. Maybe were saving that last one for a post. Makes you wonder if that happens or even one more player comes how you going to handle that size roster someone would have to be totally left out that is here now. Were at a definite 13 right now and still looking.

We're at 13, but only 12 scholarships by my count. I could be wrong.

Srs: Powell, Walker, Rennie, Horston, Key, Saunders (6)
Jrs.: T. Darby, Suarez (2)
Sos: Miles, Puckett, Wynn, Striplin (4)
Fr: Pissott, E. Darby (1 + walk-on)

That's a total of 14 players, with 13 on scholarship. So 2 extras to give.

This just highlights how important the 2023 class is. They are losing A LOT of players (well, 2 of them are essentially warm bodies though).

Someone posted that Coach Joy mentioned a post being a priority when it comes to positions for next year. It was in an interview or something i believe

It is and with two to give we can get it done. 15 on scholarship becomes nine the next season so still plenty for 2023.

Thanks, yeah I forgot Walker was returning.

Dang I was hoping we could get her I know you wouldn’t post anything about a highly touted recruit if it wasn’t true
Exactly, thats never been my style. From what I was told, she’s not coming. Instead of acting like I’m an insider and beating around the bush, I came on here and said what I said! I really don’t care how people take it.

I am glad we can have different points of views or opinions without attacking people. It's refreshing. However, playing devils advocate some people may or may not believe the poster because they have posted their personal beliefs/ feelings when it's come to recruits. I don't know if she is coming or if the person has any inside info. But people may be hesitant to "move on" when the poster has put up stuff like...

There is no way I’ll come to Tennessee to play if I was Rickea or an elite recruit.

I'd @ them but they already said they aren't commenting further and i'm good with that. Again, this isn't a personal attack just posting why people might not jump up and move on. I'm good either way and glad there is some excitement generated again for this program.

There are 3 names and possibly 4 on the list that need to be told to move on. I am not going to mention any names but Kellie needs to push them to move to smaller programs to get more playing time. If she does this then she could possibly bring in 3-4 transfers that would help this team. If not, then this team is in deep trouble next year. Kellie should have kept Holly's recruiter who had a proven history of bringing in fantastic talent. but Kellie chose to bring in a friend who she had to let go.

While I think RJ would be a valuable addition and would extend her a warm welcome, I personally think that's all we should do. We invited her, showed her the program, and made our pitch. If she decides to come, great. If not, someone else will want to be here and everyone will be better in the future.

I like that we don't beg or make empty promuses. It's a privilege to wear the Orange and rep the Lady Vols. Those who take up the challenge are loved and supported by the true fans and find a home here. And that's the way it should be.

A couple of things... Kellie is probably going to be true to those who were brought on scholarship and i don't know if her keeping them recruiter was an option as there were issues internally and i wouldn't be surprised if she was told about the culture and had no left over trace of the previous regime.

I was shocked with the allegations against FL that they hired not because of the job she did (which was good ) but she was apart of the previous staff which did little to prevent the mistreatment of players from what i read.

I see no big problems next season. The one after that could be unless we bulk up.

I strongly disagree re: "pushing" players out.

Kellie can and should honestly discuss with each player her progress, goals, and projected playing time. But if players are giving effort and honoring their commitments to the program, we should honor our commitment to them. Future recruits will/should appreciate the loyalty to players shown by our staff. We will still have room for more players including the returning players, and we will be losing sevetal to graduation next year. Some will use up eligibilty or will choose to move on regardless of the COVID extra year.

Freeing up a few extra spots isn't going to magically draw superstars. We have plenty of room as it is.

Yea let’s not go there because I’m the one that would go back and forth with you for days and I’d rather keep it civil. You went back to one post, As Amb pointed out, that you so conveniently overlooked, I’ve spilled beans before and haven’t beaten around the bush because I’m paying money for an “inside scoop” from a website. Nor do I “flaunt” that I’m an “insider” so let’s not really go there love. I enjoy your post and would rather we keep it cordial.

The inaccuracy in your post speaks volumes. Where is Holly's recruiter right now? Kellie has also shown she can bring in talent but also develop talent that she didn't initially bring in. When she first got the job, you brought on a coach she was familiar with and a coach who had a decent track record at previous stops in recruiting. When that staff didn't work one took a head coaching job (which Kellie encourage her to, is that the friend you're talking about) and the other she fired. She then brought on 1 of the best recruiters in the game and the other has been known to develop Post players and be a solid recruiter within her own right. It isn't in Kellie's style to run off players like a lot of other programs do and I don't blame her. I am sure she may have encourage some players to look elsewhere and they want to be a Lady Vol and finish it out, for that I don't blame her, nor them if they are okay with not playing.

It's funny how some of you look at what other teams are doing and compare talent and totally neglect the obvious. Kellie's freshman class looked a lot better (imo) than the number 1 recruiting class. She also found a way to get a Top 15 prospect in 2022 and one of the top PG transfers in the portal so far. If she was to dump those 3-4 players many of you are concerned with and the chemistry issues return then many of you would be bitching about that. Rebuilding what was destroyed wasn't going to happen overnight but she is doing a damn good job!

Which site can I pay for, that has inside information I would love to join.

I think loyalty to players is unreasonable. The goal of the coach is to make the team the best they can be, and if that means recruiting over players that haven't developed, then so be it. Especially when we're talking about upperclassmen. If they get two scoring wings out of the portal, and then there's a quality C that wants to come on board, by all means...Kellie should have a chat with a couple of players about their future.

RE: Finley. I think they gave her the benefit of a doubt that she was probably suffering from some Stockholm Syndrome. Certainly the players that dealt with Cam's abuse seem to support her, so why not give her a chance...especially since she's delivering with the results.

I'm glad you said that instead of me. Something I wanted to say, but since you said it I will just agree. To many posters here just go ballistic when you say something like that.
