Transfer Portal 21-22

Key's scoring did fall off towards the end of the year. I think she was doing everything the same way she did earlier but was just not getting the ball as much due to the emergence of Alexus, the struggles of Rae to get back to full strength, the loss of Jordan, and defenses adjusting to her after Jordan went out. All players need to improve (continuous improvement) and by all accounts, all of them did/are. I agree that the backups need minutes and the center minutes have to come from Tamari. Thats not a slight to her.

Jordan definitely looks for her and they have a great connection. That affected her offensive performance for certain.

Was also much easier to double/triple team her. She’s forced to play through a ton of contact due to her size as well. The things players get away with against her is disgusting. Do that to a 6’3” girl and it would look like an intentional foul. For all her size Tamari is still a pretty slight 6’7”. She’s not like Teaira McCowan or Griner who can absorb that kind of contact to the body.

Lord knows they call TK for the body any chance they get. Bit unfair she’s not given the same advantage on the other end.

Next level for her is finishing through that contact better and taking that 15’ shot. She has that shot all day long. I’d like to see her shoot it 3x a game at least. Open her own self up and make her harder to guard. I swear she didn’t miss a single one of those she took this season. Her FT stroke was looking nice to end the season as well. Got a little tight in the finale but she hit some big ones against Belmont.

We need 1 more wing-guard that not only can shoot but also dribble drive. I would definitely put Jackson at 4 play 4 out 1 in Horston on wing and Powell at point. I know we have Walker and Tess but both are role players not final 4 starter. Just my opinion. I do like them for depth purposes. In CHRIST Alone

Ya never know now-a-days what's going to happen recruiting wise. Kellie might well surprise everyone and sign another 6'2" athlete. I don't think she is necessarily locked into the traditional "tall" post anyway as she appears to be migrating towards the quick, strong, long, sharp shooter who plays good defense. Five players 6'2"- 6'4" of the Horston/Jackson caliber can do a lot of damage.

Ramani Parker (6-4 RS SO forward, Fresno, CA) has entered her name into the portal, out of Louisville WBB

Could it be that Angel Reese has found a home ?

I think Martinez fits these categories. She’s also a great rebounder and is accustomed to playing the five spot in a P5 conference. Has really good basketball instincts as well. Having her would give Kellie the chance to put five legit scorers/shooters on the floor.

She’s still top of my list. I like how versatile she is defensively. Blue collar player.

Are you seeing that trend towards a "positionless" type offense too?

Isn't she the one that Coach Sam liked her tweet about entering the portal. If so, that's a sure sign we are pursuing her. While she is already good, she is not so good that she would expect to be our star player and that she would go to WNBA after a year. On the other hand, she would be a great backup for 5 and 4 next year, and would be an essential player the year after. Would love to get her.

Yes, I think our staff are likely reaching out to her. She should have two years of eligibility and I suspect she would want to use both. She has WNBA potential if she improves a few things. Something this staff has proven they can do for players.

She missed time off and on at WV with bad knees but seems to be getting healthier again. Would like to see what she can do when she’s really feeling good. Don’t think she’ll ever be 100% on her knees but a lot of the time you could tell she was playing with pain and that seems better this past season.

Martinez would be great pickup. Mimi Collins, a former Lady Vol who transferred to Maryland but now is in the portal, is worth consideration, in my view. Sometime, you can come back home.

Martinez is my top hopeful for the Lady Vols at the moment.

Collins is one of those rare players I would indeed like to see come home. Highly doubtful this staff would go for that, but she seemed like such a great kid and really plays hard. Just think Kellie is the kind of gal who feels “we gave you a chance and you passed on it, sorry.”
