Transfer Portal 22-23

I wonder if Justine finding a new home is due to us having landed another transfer which hasn't been announced yet or if it is just coincidence that the Spear talk heated up at the same time?

She left a situation with 10 players on a preseason top 15 team. Opportunity was here. Not bought in

I agree. I don’t think she’ll play anymore at Vandy if she isn’t committed to putting in the time on her own.

Ralph having to take Tennessee leftovers is a little funny to me.

Hopefully we get Spear she certainly cures a lot of two guard problems. I would be surprised if her leaving had anything to do with anyone coming in. I think she was probably told when she met with Kellie that playing time had to be earned and she didn't think she could earn very much.

Works both ways, maybe she was looking for a new place like those we brought in. Kid was committed for a long time and played very little. I don’t question her being “bought in” but her looking to maybe start over.

Let’s not read into it more than we know and for God sake pleeeeeeeese don’t try and my the kid a villain. Are we playing victim again?

One of the definitions of villain is one who is at odds with the hero. My heroes in this instance are the Lady Vols. I do prefer the word adversary, which is what she has now become. Really thought she might stick it out.

Without knowing the details I am not about to call anyone a hero or villain. I don’t know what staff told her during the recruitment process. I don’t know if they led her to believe that she would be starting by the end of her Freshman year or at least be playing a key role. I don’t know how hard she worked. The may be other issues that we know nothing about so it is silly to call her or anyone else a villain IMO. Coaches do exaggerate to try to get a commitment.
So all the transfers we get are villains or is it just those transfers that leave UT?

I always thought she was more of a UConn style player and now she will get coached by someone from that coaching tree. Shea will know what to do with her, so if she doesn't excel there she wasn't ever going to do anything here.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. I was excited to see what we could do with the sort of player who is different from those we usually recruit. It is a shame it didn't work out.

Is there any school, that one of our players transfers to, that someone on this forum would not take as a "slap in the face" ?
As far as "leftovers" go. Justine was the highest rated high school player that CKJH signed in her 4 years as head coach of UT.

Yes, but IMO she was seriously overrated. Very limited skill set--shooting 3s. That's not enough if you lack quicks and athleticism, can't create your own shot, don't defend very well. Vandy is a good spot for her---a chance to play more--maybe--and an excellent academic school. For her I think it was a good choice..

Hoping she has a great career at Vanderbilt. Good kid from a solid family. I think in terms of bball her release is very low, which means she needs more space from a defender that’s a hard task with SEC guards on the perimeter. If she can learn more moves from midrange and post, her game could take a huge step up.

Overrated by who? Be careful.

I wish Justine nothing but the best. No matter her reason for leaving, let’s us not castigate the young lady. I wished she had stayed but she chose otherwise and we should respect that. I hope she has a great career, except when she plays us just like any other SEC player we play against.

Rickea’s coming back may have influenced Justine’s decision, which is understandable. For her, everyone she played behind last year, would still be here.

As a fan, I envisioned so much potential from Justine. She could shoot 3’s, maybe she could create and shoot from anywhere, at 6’4, maybe she could help under the basket and rebound, and I saw quickness in her passes, but turbo is right when he says she came with a limited skill set. Her shots didn’t fall, there were turnovers, and all the potential I still feel she has, didn’t show up for her as a Freshman.

I know Kellie develops players, and I feel Justine would have benefited from staying, but I can understand her wanting to play more. The “It’s time to shock the world” part of Justine’s announcement did feel like the “Sorry, not sorry” from another transfer, so I wish Justine well, but never when she plays our Lady Vols.

That's what I wonder as well. Does she really want to play C for them? I don't think they have any height whatsoever.

Very strange choice.
