Transfer Portal 22-23

Barnum doesn’t rebound hard enough for me. Improved that last season but still not where it could be especially since she was Arkansas primary rebounder. Best rebounder on an abysmal rebounding team lol.
Not any player left her and Imani Lester totally unproven out of Louisville are the only post players. Coulibaly is a tweener so if were not going after her don't know where we are going next.

LSU officially VERY dangerous. I said yesterday I didn’t think they were any better than last season so far based on who they added. Morrow changes that.

They now have two of the best rebounders in the entire country on the same team.

Still think they could have some PG issues. Really don’t think Van Lith is a PG, Kim can coach her up I’m sure, but I don’t think she’ll be nearly as effective in that role.
Yes Reese and her inside are a handful for anyone to handle.

Speaking of Arkansas I think they’re dead in the water unless Dauda makes a huge jump in her play.

They are bringing in 4 guards and a wing as freshmen. Just don’t get it, size and rebounding have been their issue for several seasons.

Don’t think Wolfenbarger will ever be physical or strong enough to play like she should. She has no idea she’s 6’5” she’s still 5’8” in her mind and wants to play like that.

Dauda didn’t impress me at all last season. She has an incredible build but no motor and her basketball skills are limited. Neighbors is not one to develop a big, he’s guard focused and always will be.

I can see them, Auburn, Florida, Missouri, Vandy, and Kentucky as the teams at the bottom of the SEC.

Coach neighbors as good at some things but he is horrific when it comes to teaching his players how to box out and rebound. Arkansas had some size but had zero clue how to use it

I don't think Barnum will be some great rebounder but I imagine she would improve going to the right program that can teach her the basics on positioning and doing your work before the rebound

For what it’s worth, they get Goforth back.

I think Del Rosario and Velez are too dependent on one another. A topic all it’s own, but I don’t think Kim really had any interest in Velez. Only took her to land Del Rosario.

Del Rosario moved much better as a sophomore and junior. Felt she was slower and more tentative in her highlights this season.

She’s a good rebounder based on size alone but does not have any rebounding technique. That will be a huge problem for her in the SEC if she isn’t willing to work on it. You can’t just stand and reach over girls in the SEC. You’re gonna have to put a body on someone, create space and pursue the basketball. Something her teammate Reese is incredible at.
I don't see her playing much now with Morrow, Reese, and Smith doing most of it. She will see a lot of time against the blow out variety of teams.

I agree, Arkansas lost all their motor either to the portal or graduation. Langerman wasn’t a scorer but she was a really great hustle player and glue player for them.

Kentucky is going to be a mess I think, poor Kyra.

MIZZOU will be about like they were this season. They have no experience in the post though. Frank will be back but she’s not a game changer in the SEC. She’s really good, but just not athletic enough to affect the game as much as they need based on how much she has the ball in her hands.

Florida is a question mark. Is Kyle coming back? They lost a lot of size to the portal and haven’t added any back. I think the Finley experiment may be over after this season. She did well in her interim but last year was a mess and her team looked really poorly managed. What happened in the SEC tournament was embarrassing for the entire sport.

Vandy has a couple bigs coming in as freshmen but they will not be ready for SEC play. Mitchell is from Colorado and I’ve seen her play. Averaged 16 and 8 and was on a pretty good team, she’s not very physical and was the biggest player in her league by a long way most games. She won’t be ready to hold down the middle in the SEC. Pissott is clearly not physical and will not be able to play in the post. I think they’ll try to use her like a Stewie lite but she just doesn’t have the motor based on what we saw. Beautiful shot when she has enough space but cannot create and does not defend or rebound.

Probably not a bad thing. Her goal year one needs to be strictly to get in the best shape possible. That goal is needed before she can accomplish anything else.

But given our size, I won't be shocked to see Kim throw 6'6 Rosario in the game just to have some size in the paint or vs SC. Not that I think she can handle it but they will need her big body and size at some point. She will probably get minutes similar to Sa'Myah Smith did this past season

Portal getting kind of thin most of the best players have a home. She is and Coulibaly are the best two that haven't committed anywhere. Still six days for players to get in the portal we may get some surprises yet.

Does anyone remember how many years Morrow has left, I believe it’s two, might be three with Covid but cannot recall exactly. I think Reese has two more years left but it might be 3 also. If they both have 3 left…aghh

Morrow has 2 (no COVID year)

Reese has 2 (part of the last class with COVID year if they want it)

Morrow wouldn't get a COVID year. She was a soph last year.

I know that they now have three players that like to shoot the ball. Of the three you probably want Van Lith to take the fewest shots. We might see Reese grab her and shake her after she takes four of five of those short jumpers she misses so much.
Reese actually encourages her teammates to keep shooting when they are in a slump.

For this reason I think VanLith may struggle a bit, especially early in the year. Kim primarily wants her PG to be a playmaker, not a scorer. She’s used to volume shooting and that’s not what Mulkey wants. She’ll be wanting the ball in the post like always. May not sit well with VanLith unless she’s truly bought in to winning a championships over individual accolades.

I think she will be fine, Alexis Morris only took 3 shots per game less than Hvl last season. Kim adapts to her players.
