Transfer Portal 22-23

And even on bad teams, someone is the leading scorer... that doesn't make them a great player. A year ago Jasmine Powell from powerhouse Minnesota was going to be the savior at point guard - SHE WAS ALL BIG TEN!

Using raw stats without context to try make your argument is weak, and pointless...
The ACC thinks she is a great player first team. I think she is a great player having watched three games she played in last season. She hit 7 of 9 three attempts in one of the games. She has over 200 made threes in three years of play. She has a 1.21 scoring rate and a 50 percent eff. That is not over one season that is over three seasons. So it is pointless to continue this just your usual stance because she decided on Tennessee.

No, she was only the the conference rookie of the year as the third option of a national champion.

Meanwhile Spear was the top option on a crappy 5-13 ACC team filling up box scores with empty stats - since her team was usually behind - that limped into the WNIT...
You saying Spear ain’t all that? Just say it then. Put it out there. I think she is the bomb, let’s see.

Again, you never look longer than now, and your expectations are all in front of us, you never lay it out for a season, makes you seem so smart, go figure.

The Big Ten thought Powell was a great player.

She's fine. But she still wouldn't start for LSU no matter what the ACC or your stats say...
Only you would find a way to bring down a lady vol commit (who’s is elite and proven at that much) . If she would have committed anywhere else she would be the next coming of christ. You are predictable at this point.

She would start for them easily probably over Van Lith or Johnson. The way she dominated Van Lith in the ACC last season was dramatic.

And much less dramatic was the rematch with Louisville in the postseason which WF lost by 26 points, which coincidentally is how many points HVL had. Of course those margins of defeat were pretty typical for Wake...

I get it you don't like her as a player you are by your lonesome self. Just your opinion not shared by many.

Saying she is better than VL is quite the claim. I am not sure how good she is but I expect she is a substantial upgrade from Walker.

Just further evidence how overboard some fans are going with this commitment. I don't doubt she will be an upgrade (not a high bar), but some of these fans losing their minds are going to be disappointed...

I'm not understanding your logic here, Darth. Aneesah Morrow was on a crappy Depaul team in a conference that's worse than the ACC. She had to put up big numbers because she was the only reliable option. How is Spear's situation any different? Both were focal points for opposing defenses.

Even Rickea was in a similar position at Miss State.

Please help me understand.

Look you found a friend nice to see.

Y’all have basically said everything I would’ve said by now! I’m finally able to sit down and revel in this win for the program! I’m trying SO hard not to get too excited like last year but O-M-G, the season needs to start tomorrow!

SEC play is going to be SO fun next year!
Spear provides an immediate upgrade to their backcourt. Her, Wells and Jackson will be a very high octane perimeter threat. She's probably better than Coulibaly even.

Agreed that the SEC will be very good next year. The top 5 teams are all probably Top 16, with LSU, SC and Tenn in the top 8.

Idk why people are so focused on which individuals would start for a team. Its all about what sum of its parts and the team collectively. Iowa was not more talented than SC but found a way. LSU was not the most talented team in the country but found a way.

I think its silly to anoint LSU/UCONN automatic champions although they are set up exceptionally well for deep NCAAT runs (provided they stay healthy). We will have to see how things play out. You have a core group of teams very talented and capable of things. We won't know much for a while until the games are played.

SEC play is going to be awesome with the talent. LSU, SC, TN, Ole Miss, Miss St all will be fun to watch.

The other thing that is impressive is that the ACC has been the best conference in the land due to the depth of top 25 worthy teams. No other league could have had teams in the elite 8 including teams that finished 4th and 7th in their conference. Truly an outstanding league that constantly tests you, so the fact that Spear has been a leader in that conference is amazing and the fact that she still shot the 3 well despite being the main player these really good defenses are trying to stop is a bonus point. Even against the truly impressive Duke defense, she shot over 50% and 40% from the three point line. Yes, it was one of her lowest scoring games (13) but the way all of teams scored few points against Duke that would be similar to scoring near 20 against a regular defense. I'm not saying at all that she is as good as Morrow, but it is not ludicrous to suggest that she is and she certainly fit our need for a scroing guard better than almost anyone.

Her efficiency scoring average is better than HVL and Johnson for all the time any of them have played. She scores at a more efficient level than either one of them. She also has a higher eff percentage than either one of them. She can handle the ball as well as either one of them and she has more threes and a a higher percentage shooting the three than either one of them. So that is what I base it on not just making something up because someone is a volume shooter and has a couple points higher average. When they played head to head this season Sear scored 49 points in the two games and made 8 of 17 threes. Van Lith scored 34 points even though she shot the ball over ten times more.
