Transfer Portal 22-23

Just like everybody had powell starting this year over Walker; Powell will start over Wells next year. You heard it here first mark my words. Powell had one of the best assists to turnover ratios in the SEC last year and has a year under her belt at Tennessee. Kelly's going to go with who she knows and trusts. Depending on their playing, Wells may start later into the season but we won't see that right off the bat.
Not really a scoop or spoiler, if you've watched KJH coach you know this is exactly what is likely to happen. Based on history, I'd be very surprised if Darby and Powell don't start the first few games at least. This is what Kellie has always done. Hell, I'd project Puckett to start but that would mean benching Rickea and I don't think we're ever going to that dark place again.

That said, I think Wells and Spear will get at least equal mins from the start and both will either be starting by the beginning of SEC play or getting most of the mins. I can sort of see them sticking w Darby as starter for awhile, sort of like they did w Striplin last yr. I believe the transfers bring the missing element and together the four, Powell, Wells, Darby, and Spear will be a big upgrade both starting and off the bench over last yr's team.

Will be interesting to see if Karo continues to start over Jill. Again, espec if Key is healthy, I really like the frontcourt group of Karo, Jill, and Key. I expect both Karo and Jill to be much improved. I thought Karo physically looked in great shape last weekend at the 3 x 3.

Who's holding their breath for 1 last final recruit from the transfer portal tomorrow?
Dilemma. I'd love to have someone to play the role Franklin did last yr. A situational take no prisoners enforcer down low However, if we add another player who will get say 10-12 mins a game, that means either Puckett, Darby, or Striplin are going to be seriously reduced. All those are players we are likely to count on heavily in 24, their Sr seasons. We already have 3 players who are almost certain to have mostly mop up duty. Eventually it's going to come down to 8, possibly 9 who actually play.

Perfect solution would be a very young post who doesn't mind sitting but would still be capable of helping out in spot situations. And a rainbow and puppy for everyone!

You’re not even a real SC fan. Can you even hoop? You just a keyboard warrior trying to cling onto something so you can feel good. Lol I provided my opinion and YOU A SO CALLED SC FAN took offense to it? Hmmm I wonder why? The LV fans seemed to respect it even though some disagreed. You Otho had to go to name calling like a true weirdo. It’s ok they’ve accepted your **** riding *** a log time ago. And please don’t call yourself a SC fan. I’m a fan but at least I can logically talk basketball as well. Vol09 stated an opinion and I did as well. I didn’t even see a problem until you tried to create one.
VN does not allow cock fighting.

So basically none of you think that Jill or Carolyn striplin will be much improved this upcoming season over last season? Ask any women's basketball trainer in the country and they will tell you, it takes at least 2 years to get girls high school players up to near their athletic potential out of high school, sometimes longer. Basically Jill was sick or injured her whole freshman year at Georgia and Carolyn didn't see the court. So if TK comes back that's a plus but we do have solid post who can actually step out to the 3-point line and shoot the ball. How many fours and fives around the SEC are going to come out and guard a four or a five at the three-point line? Heck Jill can put it on the floor and get to the rim at that. Nearing the end of last season Jill looked amazing in the paint and her footwork is better than most in the league. Remember, Jill was an All-American out of high school, loves the game of basketball, and has aspirations to play pro. That makes me think she is working her behind off this year in the off season to get stronger and to continue to improve.
I think they both will be better especially Jill. Karoline should really be a stretch four not a five. If for any reason any of them cannot play for any reason next season you are down to two post players. That is the only reason I think we need another player that plays inside.

I actually like Jill better as a 4 also. She is really slender from the waist down, very thin legs. Not a very strong base for getting pushed around in the post. I like her mobility and midrange game from the 4 as well. Challenge would be Jill defending out there, but I expect big improvement from her on D this season.

No. Do I have to be?
Not at all. You’re just super negative towards Tennessee and after all you are on our site.
These days it’s hard to be mad at him/her though. We have a whole bevy of “fans” who claim to support UT but post crap like that. I try to be objective so my posts are negative here and there but the constant negatively from the trolls is so tired.

VN is often too "lax" on its negative posters. There is a fine line between decimating and critiquing/criticizing. I have been known to critique, but I draw a personal line at abusing,,,some don't, and they are considered pitiful and rude on this site,,,try not to cross over into this 3-person world, @Mr.Pivot )

@Rooster1 is basketball knowledgeable and liked here and you would be wise not to attack him. He is respected and liked here...If you want to be at all in that realm, you would be wise not to attack he and other such posters.

If you don't care what the 100 or so regular LV posters and the many times more than that, regular viewers here think of you,,,you can join the likes of

I said their bench lacks height and they aren’t the tallest team in the SEC. Maybe if you got up off your knees and stop brown nosing you’d be able to comprehend what I said. They get it already you want to be in the fan club.

I'm guessing the post below is where you state you are talking about the bench? If so, it's not clear you are referencing the bench only. It's 50-50 Jill will start. Then you mention height in the same post where you talk about starters. As well as what TN lost from last year losing 2 STARTERS. Everyone has the right to an opinion but in public forums expect that opinion to be challenged especially if facts dispute that opinion or the reply isn't clearly stated. You got overly defensive. Even if Rooster didn't play Bball it doesn't take a player to assess players and their heights....

"I don’t disagree with them being solid. I just think elite speed, height, and athleticism is missing. Hollingshed has it but I’m not sold on the rest and though they’ve played solid up until this point in their careers I think Tennessee needs more to be considered a better team next year imo. They either lack foot speed, athleticism, or overall intangibles to replace what Tennessee lost. Horston played both sides of the ball very well and consistently! And I would add Walker was an above average defender and athlete as well."

Ahh so players like Diamond and Owusu can take months to decide and still get the free 1 time transfer to play ? Interested in where those 2 land they seem to be the biggest players left in the portal and no im not talking girth lol.
They’ve both transferred once already. Ashley’s graduated, so she won’t have to sit out. Unless Diamond has graduated also, she’ll have to sit out a year since she left Rutgers for NC State.

The players I'm sold on the Tennessee roster are Key if healthy, Jackson, Spear, Wells. and Hollingshead. Powell is experienced but she hasn't been a very good shooter or decision maker a lot of the time when she has played. Puckett and Striplin both had their moments but neither has shown any consistency in their play. They can play great one game and totally disappear in another. Ace Strickland seemed to play productive minutes for Pitt so we'll have to see what she gives us. She is as good a shooter as Darby has really good form on her shot. Darby can hit the three she needs to be able to do other things and just don't think she has the athleticism to ever be a great defender. She works on defense but the foot speed sometimes lets her down. Wynn is an athletic player has not shown she can shoot a lick and this is basketball were playing so you need to be able to score. She can hold her own defensively hasn't shown anything offensively at all. I think our entire season depends on all these players getting better in the areas where they are lacking.

For me it would be Tamari, Jill, Rickea, Jewel, and Destinee starting and I'd want to get 150 minutes out of them when playing the better teams. I could see some games where we might want to move Jill out of the lineup and use Darby or Ace if we wanted to load up on the three point shooting if teams want to pack in a zone. Load the paint with defenders. That is one thing I hope we get to see next season the packed in zone. We finally have the answer to that kind of defense with a very strong three point game.

Say what you will but I thought the question was legit.

Yeah, guess what the **** stood for 09…rhymes with luck…..You have to call BS when you see it, no matter where it comes from, he said UT will lack “elite height” lol.. Nobody can make this stuff up unless they are clueless. Just the players that can play in a post position….

TK: 6-7
JH: 6-4
RJ: 6’2
Strip: 6’3
Puck: 6’2

SC is close to even, two tallest teams in SEC

Cardoso 6’6
Watkins 6’3
Feagin 6’3
Kitts 6’2
Walker 6’5

Saying UT will lack elite height is such a joke, can’t take anything serious from this poser now. Not a mis-type, “POSER”. Say it like it is, Pivot is talking out of his azz. Embarrassment to my team fan club.

If you want to talk advantage at each spot, I give SC the advantage at 5 spot with Cardoso above Key. After that, RJ is a big advantage over either Watkins or Feagin at this point in time. Then the JH comparison to either Watkins or Feagin has to go to JH until proven otherwise. That is 2 to 1 in the post for UT. Then we Nit pick whether Raven and PaoPao are better or equal or less than Wells and Spear. You tell me Nostradamus.

I will throw this out there however, UT has nothing like a Fulwiley on their bench waiting to explode, she is potentially an ace in the hand, she might be very special and break into the lineup sooner than later and she is an X factor, but raw as hell and will maybe take considerable time to get to the level where she dominates, which she will at some point, it’s a matter of time.

Like I said before, SC is in a rebuild mode this year after losing all 5 starters and 7 seniors. 2024 might be special for them though.
Jillian is listed on our roster at 6’5, so team even taller.

I would be mad about another big skilled body in the post, but i due think we will have one of the better rotations in the SEC in the 4-5 spots.
