I hope you’re right about her, u have more knowledge about her game because I’ve only seen her a few times. Do u think she can defend bigger guards like Deja Kelly for example? If i had a choice between Donarski, jefferson, and wells and could only choose one i’d choose wells. I’ve watched her play for years. That girl can hoop and would start on majority of the lineups in america.
I vividly remember last year when we got all those transfers including Jackson and many said then we are Final 4 bound.....look how that turned out. I will wait until I see how the team develops this year before making any comments about where they will end the year in NCAA tourney. If we could get the other 2 I would be so happy, and I’m sure we would make the final four.
Totally understand and agree with the hesitation in predicting next years results!I vividly remember last year when we got all those transfers including Jackson and many said then we are Final 4 bound.....look how that turned out. I wasn’t one of them, I knew the flaws on the roster. I knew we wouldn’t get elite Pg play, I knew Darby and Striplin were too slow and Key played small for her size, but I know she didn’t play the whole season but that was my opinion going in.I vividly remember last year when we got all those transfers including Jackson and many said then we are Final 4 bound.....look how that turned out. Two things I am hopeful about-
This portal deal is a whole new thing and Kellie admitted it was more difficult than she anticipated to meld the team together. Hopefully that experience will mean the coaching staff have new and better ideas how to move that process along more quickly. Jills and RJ could be particularly helpful to transfers.
I admire Kellie taking on all comers but with so many new players I hope Kellie pares that back just a bit. Not LSU cupcake style but maybe a piece of pie or two!
You do build a culture on feelings, and you ruin one by ignoring them. That's why I want one more guard and a very young post, and no more. I want this next team lean and sharp. We know if KJH has lots of toys she is going to try to play with all of them. I want the roster tight and the lineup free of experimentation. Let Puckett, Darby, Justine, and Strip either earn their time in the starting lineup or be awesome backups and role players which I believe all can.
I'm familiar w the list of successful unsized guards. And no one in their right mind has ever suggested posting the PGs. The reason some want a taller, longer guard is to, you know, guard on the perimeter. We now have 2 undersized PGs. Makes sense to go after a taller SG. Wouldn't turn down a short superstar, but ideally, the next piece in the puzzle needs to be a taller guard who can shoot and lockdown defend.[/QUE]
@glv98 you are a great poster and are correct about 98.61% of the time. I agree with you about 31% of the time. However, assuming Powell is not coming back we will need another point guard. Since Destinee Wells is probably a day-one starter she will need a back up. I don't care if that person is smaller than a garden Gnome. If she can get to the rim and finish in traffic she will be a great addition.
That leaves the shooting guard position. Dornoski is 6'1" and has averaged double figure scoring all three years at Iowa State. But in an attempt to kill two birds with one stone, she is a lock down defender. In 2021/22 when she was Big 12 Defensive Player of the year she started 30 games ( I think) with the defensive assignment of guarding the other team's best player. At the end of the year, she had averaged holding every defensive assignment under 10 points. Impressive! We need a defensive guru.
I think we are ok at the five unless you fine a great player in the portal.
This 6 ft and up for guards is nonsense babble. Give me someone who can drive to the basket, dribble without turning it over and being able to weave around double teams/pressure, and can make a jump shot regardless of size. Like many above stated Wells and Amoore are prime examples.
So much this. For one thing, this year showed how many very good teams and very good players are out there. Just in the SEC, several teams are going to be alot bettter.. I'm definitely not getting way out there this year w FF talk.I vividly remember last year when we got all those transfers including Jackson and many said then we are Final 4 bound.....look how that turned out. What do you know about Miles playing minutes and being in trouble if she does? If I recall, we were 18-1 and ranked in the top 5 in the nation at one point 2 years ago with miles playing about 20 minutes a game. Is that the kind of trouble you are talking about? During that stretch in the 21-22 season we had no Rae Burrell, our "SuperStar". Miles plays 94 feet of in your face defense and played a significant role as a freshman during games and as a sophomore preparing the team to face other pesky point guards as part of the scout team.I want Donarski and Jefferson, If Miles has to play big mins we are in trouble.

But if we get that final piece, a good off guard who can shoot and lockdown defend and if Key is healthy and in great shape, there's no reason we cant be a top ten or fifteen team to start and move up from there. I just hope we pick up right where we left off with minimal chemistry or role issues and that we have a more manageable eary schedule. Also I'd like a slim, tight roster with little to no lineup experimentation. Ready for it!
Jordy entered the draft 3 days ago to go to the WNBAI'd love to see us add speedy athletic players who can shoot. At times I feel we play so slow, plus seeing the twitchiness and shooting of the gaurds of VT was frustrating but impressive.
With Rickea coming back, and Tamari returning healthy. Inside scoring will be easy and if Jordy comes back that's even better. But then we need more outside shooting around them.
I don't know our interest level or connection or not. But I like these players
- happy we landed Destinee Wells shot well this year from deep and at the line.
- Jayda Curry would be a nice get. Shooting range.
- Lexi Donarski great defnseive player with 3 pt range.
- Taina Mair, good passing skills and shoot.
Maybe coach you can correct my reasoning if I’m off base. With Key playing center, I think the LVs need fast and quick guards Ti get over screens so that they don’t have to switch and leave Key outside getting blown by. Quick and fast usually is the prowess of the shorter players. To keep Tennessee’s defense top notch next year, sacrificing a few inches to keep Jey anchored in the paint is a good thing.
With this roster is won’t work, this roster is still very flawed, now if we get 2 big time guards or one big tile guard and one big tile center then I wouldn’t see a problem with her playing more mins. What do you know about Miles playing minutes and being in trouble if she does? Big difference is now we don't need her to score more than the 8 or so pts she usually gets. We have scorers. Key's presence on D, her rim protecting, and her rebounding will be huge for us. IMO just her size and presence opens things up and draws fouls on opponents. Jill will be our inside scorer from the 4 position, along w Striplin. She is a rim protector for sure. We all would love for her offensive game to expand.
