Transfer Portal 22-23

Running list (HS rank) ((will keep updating))
Maryland
Mila Reynolds(60)-> Purdue
(Also her sister 2023 Amiyah(43) to Purdue)
Gia Cooke(52)-> Houston (first year P5 Big12)

Purdue
Lilly Stoddard(87)-> Butler
Purdue is obviously P5, and is actually building a competing team in the B1G. I would not be ready to say Houston is on that stage, in fact we can decidedly say it is a step down but Purdue not so.

Maryland such an interesting case example…they lose so many players every year, and good to great players, and yet Freese seems to rebuild annually. That is the hardest program to get a grip on, why the constant turnover of players? And why the continued competitiveness? Strange things going on there, I cannot comment nor do I suspect most can on the reasons for what Is at root there.

Amen Preacher!!!! Mulkey is right next to the south carolina racist in all respects . If the louisville transfer goes there she will regret it with madam reese running the asylum!
Yes winning at all cost does. No honor. Angel Reese possibly being a lady vol makes me vomit. Even Pat was class>wins Mulkey is the opposite she doesn’t care if players fail school shoot drugs are classless. No thank u
Let's make these uppity negros pay for it and Mulkey for being a Reese lover. Enjoy your party of two.

Wtf are u smoking you clearly don’t engage with black people about Mulkey
He/she meant that in blue font VF, it was one of the texts I think I understood completely tonight without much thought. Of course, there is always the chance I completely missed on the intent, would not be the first time, just couldn’t imagine anyone being that blatantly racist….so blue font it is. Let’s hope so anyway.
I used the word latent previously, and it is a tricky word to decipher in texts, the Orange beard one does not fall into this category, that is just pure ignorance or at worse, true racism. Most of the other stuff is likely rhetoric with a design for sarcasm or blowback which normally shows in blue font here.

Corrected. Given my other posts and likes, i didn't think it was necessary but indeed it is!

From my count there are at least 12 ranked freshman still in the portal with no new school listed including JP
I of course don’t know if JP will end up at a traditional P5 program, but I would think her pedigree gets her to one unless she opts differently herself. She is still so young in the game, she will have some P5 options. She might be a great fit at an Ivy League school like Princeton (NJ, home state) if she has the academic chops…

I heard Princeton doesn’t accept transfers don’t know if that true

She might end up there Creek.

Yeah, and I wouldn't be at all surprised. And that would probably work out fine from both on-court & NIL standpoint. Just having a little fun at the prospect of two big alpha personalities coexisting...sometimes there are problems, but sometimes it's a match made in Heaven (or elsewhere). I suspect they'd get along fine.

The tv producers would be a little stymied trying to figure out whom to feature, though. Probably go with the hot hand for that game, as they did with Horston/Jackson, Amoore/Kitley, etc.

One thing is for sure...Van Lith going to LSU would totally upset at least one favourite social "narrative" that was foisted upon the public by a lot of media personalities this season, particularly with the title game.

Really good points, Rooster. I have wondered that myself about Maryland. How do you attract such good talent if you can't retain it, and then are you able to replace the departing talent with additional talent? This musical chairs/revolving door doesn't make a lot of sense.

Re: Players "transferring down"....

Obviously, some players are looking for immediate, increased playing time, while others may be simply moving to levels more suited to their current talent level. Then there are other personal factors such as family needs, proximity to home, school size, coaching issues, culture fit, etc. The well-known and oft-told story of Larry Bird leaving Indiana almost immediately after being overwhelmed by the whole experience comes to mind. Also Elena Della Donne wanting to be close to her sister.

There is one other thing that comes to mind with this new transfer portal landscape. Could it be that some players will "transfer down" to get immediate exposure as a starter and hope to use their new situation as a stepping stone back to the "major leagues?" We sometimes see that with players who have been dismissed from teams for various infractions and then play their way back. Is it likely that some are intentionally using the "step down" as a way to audition for a P5 role and have a future transfer as their goal all along (as opposed to finishing their careers at the lower level)?

Interesting to me that Jeff Walz, who learned at the feet of Brenda F, has exactly the same situation. He can get em, but he can't keep em. I hope team culture is not going to become outdated bc of the easy replacement tool of the portal. Seems like constant team drama and discontent makes a career not as fun as it could be.

Problem w this is they'd have to sacrifice a year of eligibility to step back up, unless they want to wait 3 yrs til they graduate and then only have one year to play. IMO patience with current situation might be the move for most of these young players, including Justine. I really hope she ends up staying.

Feels like we are in portal purgatory right now. LV coaches are all touting their big recruiting weekend, but it's all about some big AAU showcases they're traveling to. When they're flying out as opposed to staying home for visitors, that's a sign the focus is hs recruiting, not portal. Guess we're waiting for transfers to make some decisions. HS recruiting is certainly important, but in regards to our current roster, this is agony!

With the new transfer rule (1 free transfer and then have to sit out a year if you transfer a 2nd time unless you are a grad student) I don’t see a freshman or sophomore transferring to a lower level with plans to transfer again in a year. You are spot on in your 1st paragraph IMO.

Some players, although taboo for fans to believe don’t like playing for big schools. Have Power 5 talent but introverted personality and would rather play with less eyes on them. Go to school, play ball, have a great college experience, graduate.

Coulibaly Tennessee or A&M seems she is having a problem deciding may want to visit another school. Barnum I would contact even if she is one year player she is talented and is all we need to finish our inside game. If no Coulibaly we should still be looking for another guard and I think Fountelroy just being a sophomore would be a great addition.

Agree. Donarski is also still out there, although a real longshot for us, also Fritz who may be more realistic for us to get. Got to step up that 2 guard position and I think we're in biz next season.

so let me get this straight they should be in Knoxville hosting transfers to build the current roster, but yet when they only landed 1 recruit in 2022 and no recruits in 2023 they should be out getting the high school recruits because they can't live off the portal.

Which one do some of you really want them to do, some of you are never satisfied.

So ignore the 2024's and beyond and focus on the transfers and then if we only land Boyd in 2024, Kellie can't recruit. At this point just admit that some of you aren't fans and until they hire the coach you want. you will never be happy.

I think they are doing both and sure we have to go to the tourney. After it is over I am sure were going to see some more transfer visits. Were not going into the season with 10 players even if we add Grand transfer or other player after the portal closes.
