Transfer portal discussion

You know I like to exaggerate. I do. but This place man...magic. I've been 4 times now.
I've been fortunate enough to see a big portion of this world. Africa, South America, Europe.
El Nido, is like something out of a fairy tale.
There's islands you can rent for a night lol.

If you've never listened or agreed to one thing I've ever said...agree with this:

You have to see it once in your life.

We have agreed on quite a few things. I will certainly add it to my future travel list.

If you pay close attention, this staff isn't just about top rated players. They do as good of a job as just about anyone on vetting these recruits. Culture fit and various other aspects are equally as important as talent to them. You may miss on an evaluation here or there, but the goal is to limit those misses in overall evaluations. I promise you that they aren't looking at the recruiting services when they're spending their valuable resources recruiting players.
Again, no one said culture wasn't important or that our coaches rely on the recruiting services and do no evaluation of their own. I do think the Top 100 type players we have who are interested in coming here are either committed or on our radar as possible commits, I don't think we are turning away many, if any, top recruits for 2023 because "we don't have spots".

Who specifically are these Top100 type kids that you speak of?

This is what I disagree with, in part (I don't disagree that we are saving some spots for transfers, everyone is):

What I disagree with is your contention that "by design" that "there hasn't been this big explosion of Top 23' commits". We are taking the top recruits we can get at the moment and we are doing pretty good. We are 11th on the Composite with a chance to move up. Building a program doesn't happen in a day but we aren't turning away what you called "top recruits" and I narrowed down to "Top 100" because "by design" we don't have room for them. C'mon, is it so bad to admit we aren't No. 1 in recruiting yet in Year 2 that we have to tell ourselves it's on purpose?

When I said "by design", it wasn't to indicate that the staff was turning away a bunch of players for the '23 class. Numbers are tight because we nearly had a full class before we started winning a bunch of games. We also will be needing to add immediate contributors for the '23 season. That's hard to do through the high school ranks, so we'll need to do it through the portal. That's what is by design. We desperately need TEs, but you didn't see the staff targeting more high school TEs. The plan is to get them from portal and you must have roster space (for those and others). The numbers won't magically work themselves out. They also must have room for all the early enrollees coming in, which further complicates the numbers crunch. That's not to mention which guys are allowed to come back as super seniors. The numbers crunch for '23 is why they have used much of the momentum from this season to mostly work on recruits for '24 and '25. I love this current class and have never complained about where it's ranked by recruiting services. You've got the wrong one for that argument. We'll just have to see how many more on our current roster hit the portal starting tomorrow.

That was not a good locker room. Each coach has their own methods to establishing a culture. He wants a culture built on fierce competition. He quickly wants to weed out the weak and the quitters. The problem is that you can't have fierce competition AND say you're bringing in 10 guaranteed starters with you (one being your son).
It was an autocorrect failure. Meant to say he divided his locker room.

Not sure Deion is worried about dividing a locker room that went 1-11
I guess I need to actually listen to what was said. In some peoples summaries they make it sound like he told the players to hit the road.

In a nutshell, he said that there are some players that weren’t giving their all and he was calling out the players. He said there will be no hats, ear rings, phones in his meetings. Said basically that the fans have had to endure 20 years of crap and that those that aren’t interested in doing it his way, he will push them out.

Fair enough....... If that's an accurate description of what he said I have no issues with it.

He did. Also told them that an unnamed group of them had already lost their job to the players he's bringing with him.

Also, if I was his old school, I'd be mad as **** that he'd recruited my team away on his way out. And if I was CU, I'd be nervous that those are the ethics he's bragging about because he'll be leaving them at some point as well. Deion sounds like more of a me-me guys than Lane Kiffin.

He said he intends on bringing 10 starters with him. He also advised players to hurry up and hit the portal, and if they decide to stay he will try to make them quit. Like I said, he's trying to weed out the quitters but this approach could backfire. He's not at JSU.
I don’t think it will. If, he stays he builds a foundation on guys that will work hard. The culture of a team that goes 1-11 is something a winning coach cannot have. If a team went 1-11 it’s everything from admin to coaching to players. It’s got to be cut out from the bottom up.

It was more of a hit the road if you aren’t prepared to work and push beyond what you think you can do because things are changing there.

Devin Leary was playing pretty good football prior to getting injured this year. NC State qb transfer with one year left.
Leary has a lot of arm talent but not much of a running threat. I think that aspect gives this offense additional juice that it needs.
