Transfer Portal Thread

Should have 2 years
That’s excellent. I’m not too worried about PG duties this next season. I’m not as down on Vescovi as a backup PG as others. It’s a bonus to have someone who can probably play a few different guard spots which it seems like he can. Hopefully between he, Bailey who we know is streaky, and Mashack just a freshman, we can be have a great all round backcourt

So my list of the bigs in order of most wanted.

1. Qudus Wahab - size, numbers, and did it at Georgetown
2. Jayden Gardner - numbers and has played plenty of minutes and produced every season he's there, and the American conference is pretty solid
3. John Harrar - better size than Gardner and has also produced (especially rebounding), like the fact in 4 years he's got 0 3pt attempts so he plays inside and doesn't try to be an outside guy
4. Noah Gurley - like the size and it appears to produce, not a fan of the low rebounding numbers, but he's also the team's second leading scorer/shot taker
5. Dallas Walton - Just don't see it, seems like Uros is a bigger body with more time in the system, seems the least likely to give you an immediate impact as a transfer and he has I think 1 year left (maybe 2 with covid stuff)

Powell, Stewart, Locke, Wahab, Gardner, Harrar (if we can land 2 or 3 of these guys we'll be doing good imo)

Chandler, Mashack, BHH, Tamba and then Quentin if you only get 2 of the above transfer guys, or if Walker does transfer.

Yet entering his 2nd year with no Kyle Alexander or Grant Williams or Derrick Walker he chose to leave despite having less people in front of him to start? Seems like that was Barnes saying "you aren't going to play here"
You must be new around here. Search on Burns and you will figure out why he left.

I like Wahab over Harrar but would be very happy with either. Wahab does a better job addressing some of our needs and is also only going to be a Jr. The ‘22-‘23 season is looking a little thin in the post and will depend a lot on how Tamba (assuming we get him) develops and what ORN/Uros can do. Which will Uros still have eligibility then? He’s only a sophomore this year but he’s 23. Will the clock expire on him?

Do you plan to continue to derail the discussion to try and "be right" about something that's subjective anyway? Or can ya just let it go and move on? (I will if you will <3)

Jalen Cone would be an amazing back-up PG to Chandler if we could land him. He is in the portal from VT and we were in on him hard out of high school.

Cone is transferring to have more chance to be playmaker not be a backup. He would have to be sold on being a tag team combo with Chandler and depends on if he would want to be primary ball handler or off ball guy.

If you’re counting BHH and Fulk returning what glaring hole do we have that a transfer who wants to start and get 30mpg find as appealing?

Chandler
Vescovi/Bailey
James/Mashack
BHH
Fulk

I’m not suggesting we shouldn’t try and don’t need players, but transfers look at rosters, we may just not be as appealing to some of the higher end guys.

If Fulkerson comes back. I would like to see Barnes and staff possibly use him at the 3 and 4 spots where he could post up smaller defenders at the 3 spot and work on his mid range game some more.

Frustrating. If the kid can play, let’s see what he can do. I’m not naive, I know there are things going on behind the scenes, but I feel like if he had major issues (i.e. drugs or something similar) we would have heard.

If it’s just attitude, then it’s frustrating that he isn’t getting a chance to see if he can gel on the court.

Barnes frustrates me with this stuff. Once a kid gets in doghouse he just never lets them see light of day.

It’s up to the kids that got themselves into the dog house to do what’s expected of them in order to get out. Any coach would lose their team and all respect if they let them out of the dog house without doing what they are expected to do. Admiral responded, did what was expected of him, and has become a 21st century legend. It’s best to just let go of those that refuse to or are unable to get on board with the program. Rewarding them with playing time if they haven’t lived up to what’s expected is the worst possible approach. College kids are dumb.

A good coach will clear up those issues rather than cutting bait. I hope Barnes can do that with Walker. Though to be honest it's head scratching to recruit someone who is apparently a complete 180 from what you expect from a player. Coaches put a lot of time into going through the background of players while recruiting them. I've known some very talented kids who got way less attention than their play would otherwise indicate because of attitude and off the field/court issues.

Fulkerson at the 3 is a nightmare in terms of spacing.[/QUOTE

He would have to get better defensively or it would kill us on the defensive end of the floor.

Barnes wants to recruit players that have a good head on their shoulders.

That’s how he’s always ran his system, to keep from having team chemistry issues.
