Transfer Portal Thread

Yeah, I don't think anyone is upset over turning away from Gardner. Gurley looks like a player, though, IMO. And I'm fine with the staff passing there if they land one of these bigger fish, but if we swing and miss on all of Brooks, Kessler, Dante, etc., then the heat is on over the decision to not push hard for Gurley. And I understand the "chill out, wait and see" attitude, but it's discussion-worthy in the meantime.

To me, with as many spots as we have available, it only makes sense to get one in the boat while you can. It isn't like we're squeezed for roster spots. Whike I think he can contribute, I doubt Gurley is the kind of player that is going to scare off any of the aforementioned guys.
Gurley said we were out recently. It sounded like we gauged interest but never offered (kinda like what Duke did with him).

Powell hasn’t played a game for us yet. I was referring to the transfers we have taken and seen results. Ours have mainly wasted roster spots or had mixed results. Bama and Arky have hit big is my point in that post. Powell should be good since he has shown ability in this league already.

Victor Bailey was a very solid contributor as a transfer on an NCAA tourney team this past year. James Daniel was a solid backup PG transfer on an SEC championship team. Lew Evans wasn‘t great but did make big contributions in a couple of SEC wins. Let’s wait until Plavsic is done at UT before deciding about him. Anosike is the only transfer to my recollection who hasn’t panned out at all.

I would like to see Uros get 15 to 20 mins. 6 to 8 pts. 6 to 8 rbs.

Ian Chiles didn't, but that was due to injury, so I feel it's unfair to include him.

Pippen Jr. declaring so Candy gonna suck worse
Declaring for the NBA draft? I must be completely lost as I don’t see him anywhere close to being NBA sized or athletic. Vandy lists him as 6’-3” but I’ll have see the combine measurements before I believe he’s that tall.

You don’t have to be NBA sized or NBA athletic to play in the NBA...

Honest question - who is in the NBA with Pippen’s height, quickness, and shooting ability? He’s been a high volume shooter at the worst program in the SEC and his percentages aren’t very impressive? Again, I’m probably wrong on him

I wonder if he's done growing. His dad was 6'1 early in his college career and 6'8 by his senior year.

Define solid. Because other than a 3 game stretch he flat out was bad in SEC play.

Here’s the interesting thing. Obviously it’s not official but unless UT is going to go back to two true bigs, I gotta think looking at centers like Fante, Brooks and Kessler...plus Aidoo...plus Tamba and BHH potentially coming early...that points to Fulky not coming back. I know he doesn’t count against the scholarships, but if you get Aidoo, Brooks and BHH...along with Fulk...that’s a lot of fighting for minutes for two top 50 players and two seniors.

Aidoo isn’t going to come here and get 20-25 mpg as a freshmen. Maschack is a Top 50 player and he certainly won’t be getting big minutes either. They’re freshmen. It’s probably good for their development to not have them play big minutes.

So, if that’s the case, there are plenty of minutes for BHH, Fulky, and Kessler/Brooks to go around. We only really had two true post players (Pons/Fulk) this year and we all saw how that worked out. We need at least 3 and ideally 4 for next season.

Fwiw (not much) on most mock drafts for 2024 Aidoo is either early 2nd round or late first.

John Fields comes to mind as another transfer who didn't live up to what he was expected to contribute.

Glad he is headed out of the SEC. The less transfers to our rivals the better.

Amen! I am worried about KY and Arky. They are pulling them in. People keep talking about Alabama, but I do not see them sustaining over time. As long as White is at Florida, I think they will be hit or miss. I am surprised TX A&M is not doing better with Buzz there. Mississippi State, Auburn and LSU will probably end up on probation at some point given their coaches...;) Missouri has the potential to be better but I do not see it happening under Cuonzo. Ole Miss, Vandy, South Carolina, and Georgia will continue to be Ole Miss, Vandy, South Carolina and Georgia...:D
