Has there been any mention of UT and Richie Leonard, IV, the transfer Guard from Florida? I haven't seen Leonard connected to anyone. Given UT's apparent need at LG, one would think there would be talk of UT reaching out to Guards.
I will say this...I re-watched the Citrus Bowl and specifically watched Jackson Lampley. He looked good. Maybe this staff likes him as the starter there next year?

This is the kind of strawman response that kills me. There isn't simply one alternative; the best TE in college football. There is an entire universe of possibilities between Brock Bowers and a kid with 2 catches in 19 games. So no, obviously I didn't expect Brock Bowers or anything of the sort, but I also expected someone a little more proven than this, or at least someone with some pedigree. This kid's next best offer coming out of JUCO was Louisiana. For our #3 TE? Were you expecting to bring in Brock Bowers?
When you are bringing in depth pieces to play 5-10% of the offensive snaps, they aren't going to be all-conference type of players.
A tight end that mostly sits on the bench for two years and contributes almost nothing is what things look like on a team with a very healthy depth chart. I look forward to the day when we see that kind of progression and it once again becomes unusual for freshmen and sophomores to be regular starters. We're moving in the right direction, but we're not there yet. This is the kind of strawman response that kills me. There isn't simply one alternative; the best TE in college football. This isnt me barking just for the sake of it. I almost never complain about anyone we offer, so give me a little credit here. I understand that we aren't going to land a proven George Kittle 2.0 out of the portal given what we already had. I'm just surprised that up against a scholarship limit, minus 2, that we are willing to take someone who hasn't done anything in two years at Bama. It just seems like there should be someone out there that has more tangible evidence that he can be successful than this. Maybe that's naive of me, but I just find it hard to believe that this our best option.
I did see where we were going to bring him in on an UOV two years ago before he committed to Bama, so we obviously have some level of comfort with him. I'm not storming the football office with my pitchfork over it. I just think it was a curious offer given our lack of space and other needs.

I agree. And if this kid had been someone with offers from Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan, and Stanford coming out of JUCO <ignore the irony of those schools recruiting 99.9% of JUCO student athletes>, then I'd be a little more excited. It's the lack of production AND the lack of pedigree that raises an eyebrow.A tight end that mostly sits on the bench for two years and contributes almost nothing is what things look like on a team with a very healthy depth chart. We are searching for our #3TE my guy. Maybe this guy a good blocker. Who knows?
There is a multitude of reasons we could have offered him. But we were never going to be offering a portal TE with significant production to come be our TE#3. It just wasn't going to happen.
Historically (even under Heupel), our tight ends block a hell of a lot more often than they're targeted for passes. Perhaps this kid is considered a great blocker, and that will be his primary usage. All 3 of our top tight ends don't have to be receiving tight ends. In fact, I would imagine that Heupel doesn't want that. He wants different skill sets.I don’t think Chris implied that we have to bring in someone with significant production, but I will say it’s weird that no one seems to be a bit concerned about bringing in a Senior who has only ever caught 2 passes in his college career. I think the entire point Chris is making is in a portal filled with 1000+ players there is surely someone that has caught more than 2 passes in 4 years.
Let’s at least aim for 3 catches!
And that's fine. It's at least a more logical response than accusing me of banging the table wanting Brock Bowers. We are searching for our #3TE my guy. Maybe this guy a good blocker. Who knows?

And that's fair. Blocking isn't something that's gonna show up on a stat sheet in terms of production. If that was the aim, I'm good with it.Historically (even under Heupel), our tight ends block a hell of a lot more often than they're targeted for passes. Yeah after watching him do that I haven't been as worried about LG.I was pleasantly surprised. He held up well in pass pro and helped open some holes in the run game.
That's 2 catches at Bama. He was a JUCO transfer so he hasn't been at Bama 4 years. Saban brought him in to be a blocking TE apparently. I'm assuming similar role here.I don’t think Chris implied that we have to bring in someone with significant production, but I will say it’s weird that no one seems to be a bit concerned about bringing in a Senior who has only ever caught 2 passes in his college career.
