'24 Transfer Portal

This is shaping up to be a very disappointing portal season. Hope things change before we end up at the top of every sports writers’ “CFB Portal Biggest Losers” list.

All these teams get so much better from the portal and we just hang out and play the same guys for 9 yrs.

Honestly, there's probably another 6 players, at least, that I could see deciding not to use their COVID year or hit the portal.

Unless they're a guy from either LOS that the staff wants, I'm fine with departures. Need to flip this roster and turn the page. Time for new blood.

Really hate to be negative. But staff really has shown me that they cannot recruit at an elite, or close to an elite level for a consistent amount of time.

Hope in every facet im wrong. But there is no way on Earth i'm buying stock when you lose 6-7 DB's, including two freshman. That there's a silver lining. Esp when there is literally NO ONE being targeted, worth getting excited over.

We had a golden opportunity this portal season to fill in the inconsistencies on this roster, and to add championship level talent.

Again, Im probably way off here. But it seems once again we are going to have an underwhelming transfer class, in addition to what could have been HS class.

We have no control over the situation, again. But, my criticism of the staff in that regard is warranted. Hope it gets better.

It’s not about just getting the best players it’s about getting players that fit your system and that don’t have off field issues nor create locker room issues.

Not to be contrary. But, are 6-7 DB's consistently creating THAT much division in the locker room? If not, how in the world did we whiff on 6-7 DB's we offered schollies too? (assuming Jarmy recruited some them knuckle heads).

Im using the DBs as a frame to illustrate larger issues.

Not to be contrary. But, are 6-7 DB's consistently creating THAT much division in the locker room? If not, how in the world did we whiff on 6-7 DB's we offered schollies too? (assuming Jarmy recruited some them knuckle heads).

Im using the DBs as a frame to illustrate larger issues.

Larger issues example; said senior DBs, value themselves higher than the coaches do and they overplay their hand and leave for seemingly bigger paydays....only to end up at GA. TECH!

Keeping lesser talented players around for more than they're worth could absolutely create division in the locker room. Don't you think?

And thus the larger issue at hand, my theory of how this plays is as valid as yours. We'll never truly know. So complaining about the coaches strategy, or deeming the results a failure prematurely is a fools errand don't you think?

Yes. And its why i'm going to stop complaining about it. Said what I said. Now, moving on.

Reading the tea leaves, that seems to be exactly what has happened. I'm good with it if that's the case. Bru, Sampson and the OL/DL linemen remaining bring far more value than anyone who's hit the portal so far.

While I agree with you, some team out there is going to end up getting the talent and dealing with it... Isn't that part of the Job as a coach making that amount of money? As a head coach making elite money, you need to be able to coach and manage your locker room... This off field issues and creat locker room issues is starting to sound like a cop out to me on Heup...
If they don't work, then get rid of them, it's on them... He didn't have an issue doing it with the Clemson RB who was only at UT for a minute, so why can't they do it now?

To me at this point if they don't make some big moves fast and keep standing on the sidelines watching everyone else scoop up the talent, then he has zero excuses next season if we are weak or can't compete in a certain position group.

Rucker, MacDonald, Burrell, and Slaughter were all brought in by the previous staff. Nothing this staff could do but work to develop them or chase them off earlier.

The only two you can say "didn't work out" for this staff are Turnage and Luttrell. And you're not going to hit on everyone. Once we see Gibson, Matthews, J. Slaughter, Turrentine, Jordan Thomas, Boo, etc. play we might have a different feeling about their ability to evaluate and recruit DBs.
