'24 Transfer Portal

Reading between the lines, seeing our portal plays play out, along with info and insight from posters like LAVol, among others, it's obvious our strategy is to prioritize the guys we want to retain in our locker room.... Offer them fair market value but not to get in the weeds with guys who are only looking out for themselves.

This is solid strategy IMO, we aren't out there with the head hunters taking volume commits, but we make plays strategically for that guys we need/want through the portal. Others team plays seem desperate and likely to create issues internally with players they already have. I think we are navigating the portal smartly, teams recruiting over their own players in the portal are going to find themselves burning bridges in the high school recruiting circles in short order. Remember, these players talk to each other.
the fact that TB, TM, and KL all went to same school solidifies this.

The DB's exodus is due to one of the 3 scenarios IMO.

1) We decided to prioritize other players at their positions moving forward.
2) There are players frustrated with their performance in this system under current coaching and they want to seek out other options.
3) combination of #'s 1&2.

I hope it's number 1.

Have we gotten any further info on Hadden? Is he going to get another year?

Hadden has no eligibility left

Baron to Ole Miss as per article on SDS.
I Want to go ahead and point out to everyone who is envying Ole Miss that they've lost 32 players to the portal this year. Think about that for a second next time you want to freak out over us losing 11 players, 2 of which made an actual impact

Where are you getting they lost 32 players? 247 says they had 10 hit the portal and have taken 8 transfers. Just checked On3, and it says the same.

If you have a house worth $1million but someone is only willing to offer $750k, it is irrelevant what you "want or think" your house is worth. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay. When everything is new, people tend to overpay but as time goes on, it balances out. I believe the same is true for NIL. Schools may overpay in the beginning, but after getting burned a couple times they will begin to change their valuation. So it doesn't matter what value a player thinks he/she is worth, what is a school willing to pay is the true value. I don't blame the athletes trying to get all they can and it's up to the school to determine the limit.
JMO

Go Vols!!

What I fear is next, if not already happening in the NIL/Portal era is in season tampering.
As an example, Alabama-Georgia etc spot a difference maker(RB-QB-DL-OL) at a G5 or bottom tier P5 school and have their “people” reach out to him and say“take care of yourself don’t get injured and we will have a big pay day for you in the portal”
Now this player has to decide do I give my all for my present team or ease back and save myself for my future team. This is indeed a slippery slope and if guardrails aren’t put in place it’s going to ruin the game I loved for over 50 years.

Tanking you effort because of less than a promise for a future opportunity seems foolish.

NIL is destroying College Football... However a few schools seem to have taken it from Bad to Worse -> Oregon, USC, FSU and Miami Fl
Remains to be seen. On one hand, it may increase parity by making it more difficult for certain teams to stockpile 5 star players sitting on their bench. May also improve the overall quality of the game by allowing schools to retain players considering a jump to the NFL.

And if the current team is 2-6 at the time with no shot at a bowl or playoff, the said players will shut it down mid-season to keep injury free for next year.

It’s already happening pretty much because players are sitting out of bowl games and often times they are transferring or headed to the NFL

It isn’t increasing parity at all. It is still the same 5-10 schools who have a legitimate shot at winning the playoffs. The only way you could have true parity is with a salary cap and draft. That will never happen

My thoughts as well. If the ultimate goal is the NFL, it seems counterproductive to tank a lower level.
If you are already getting NFL money in college as some seem to be, maybe the lure of the NFL wear and tear is not so alluring. It is a very low percentage of players make it to the NFL level anyway. Take the money, run and retire.

It's too early to know the full implications of the NIL era. We are in the beginning stages here.

They took Warren Burrell and realized “yikes, we def need another CB” lol
After watching Burrell's zone coverage.

Our terrible zone defense has made me prejudiced against all zone defense.

Watching the Texans convert long third down against the Titans Zone defense is triggering me right now.
