Transfer portals before playoffs are killing our depth

Anyone know if a player transfers if we free up another scholarship for the calendar year? I know they have a new 105 player rule just not sure how it affects transfers

Apparently we only get 83 next year due to penalties. Here is a post on this topic

We’re not going to have any depth with these transfers if we make a deep run. More games = more injuries. Not good. Huepel needs to do a better job keeping us together. We have a championship to play for
Take a breath. "Not going to have any depth"? Which player in the portal are we going to miss most in the playoffs? Kaleb Webb? The guy with 6 catches? Jordan Matthews? The guy with only two tackles against Kent state? Let these young men move on to somewhere where they can actually play the sport they love. Our coaches watch these guys every day and for whatever reason, they haven't made their case for playing time. It leaves a spot open for another guy to prove himself. Remember when people like you were losing your minds over all those mediocre CBs transferring last season? Now look at our corners. THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR EVERYBODY.

In ain’t Heupel, it’s the ridiculous system he’s having to deal with. There shouldn’t be any portal activity right now. Plus, what the hell are kids thinking by bailing as the team heads into the playoff? Just ride it out for a few weeks.
Well. Have you seen the amount of “EEs” we have?

There’s a roster limit, not to mention the calendar absolutely sucks.

Jalen Smith has 37 tackles this season at LB.
As a sophomore! He was very much part of this elite defense, but he had to leave because other rosters won’t hold his spot if he stays at Tennessee for the playoffs. And Inge has already told him Spillman will be coming now that he’s healthy and we have some dogs coming in as freshman at LB!

IMO, Jalen Smith will be missed. Losing him right now is not good, no matter how you look at it.
I agree. Also, losing Matthews leaves us with only 3 corners if I’m not mistaken. Would these guys not want to stick around and take a chance that they make a contribution on a championship team? I assume that would make their NIL value go through the roof. Imagine if Smith made the game-winning sack or Matthews got a pick six. Something like that.

These transfers are expendable and hardly see the field. That's the reason they are transferring.

Good riddance to those who leave before the playoffs as none of them are starters. Most of the stud players we have can play multiple positions if the need presents itself. Brutus the Buckeye about to have his nuts crushed! GO VOLS!!!!

A bunch of backups not playing isn’t hurting anything. You won’t notice they are gone and haven’t noticed they played or didn’t play this year.

I've become numb to this now. I've accepted that this is just the nature of college football in 2024 and every team in the country is affected by it. Some people here want to treat every transfer portal announcement like someone is breaking their spouse's heart on Christmas Eve by serving them divorce papers. I'm sure many of these players are "encouraged" to transfer. Think of this team as a giant bonsai tree. In order for it to reach its max potential, the dead branches have to be severed so new ones can grow.

Kids these days are entitled and think they deserve it now. If they can’t get it here they’ll downgrade and play somewhere.
Such a simpleton way to look at it. It’s a business and they are well within their right to seek out the best opportunities for themselves…..just like anyone else in the workforce. Sorry it hurts your feelings.

I was initially surprised that Elijah Herring transferred but it made sense later. It has to be rough to see the grandstanding, NIL deals and hype pitched at incoming recruits for some players who will be competing with them for playing time. However many guys who elect to leave will be shocked when they see the facilities and resources at their next school in comparison to Tennessee.

How did you know what I got for Christmas? I’m kidding. I think.

Well part of that peak earning window is going t

A huge portion of that revenue potential is tied to fan interest. If the shenanigans keep up and it keeps getting more out of control there’s going to be some people that choose to spend their entertainment dollar elsewhere. Leaving school to chase money while your teammates are chasing a ring is pretty grody.
Not being a jerk at all when I say this, but there will always be people that pay for it.

We lost some players that weren't really playing anyway. No big deal...next man up!

They’re thinking if they want in school anywhere else to play they have to do it now.

Some of yall seem to forget that guys need to figure out which school they are enrolling in and the logistics of moving, signing up for classes, etc. They don’t have the luxury of “sticking around a few weeks.”
