Transfer portals before playoffs are killing our depth

I agree. Also, losing Matthews leaves us with only 3 corners if I’m not mistaken. Would these guys not want to stick around and take a chance that they make a contribution on a championship team? I assume that would make their NIL value go through the roof. Imagine if Smith made the game-winning sack or Matthews got a pick six. Something like that.
You’re mistaken. Their NIL value wasn’t going through the roof regardless. I don’t want to crap on former players but we’re fine here. Most leaving we’re encouraged to move on.

I assume that anybody entering the portal had a player - coach discussion and evaluation. Education and personal reasons may be in play as well. Could be coach - player conflict. We will never know what the reason will be and have no need. Maybe a honest evaluation by a coach, graded, team violation and the list goes on and on. Whatever the reasons are it was done so without damage to the player or the brand to date. Time to move on and live with a mutual decision.
Timing is terrible because of the rules and needs to be fix. Until somebody gets a handle on it then we have to live with it.

Some may say Smith but I disagree. I don’t think we will miss any of these guys leaving. And OP makes it sound like Heupel can actually do anything about guys leaving. Hey if they wanna go, bye Felicia. We will be fine.
We could potentially play 4 more games. We will most certainly miss an LB that has been playing significant snaps in every game. He played 42 snaps last week in the most important game of the season. So yeah we will miss him. Especially if their are injuries at that position

Selfish fans thinking it's "selfish players" is funny. That's ridiculous, everyone does what's in their self interest. But aside from a lot of these guys being encouraged to leave many of them won't get picked up by another team so they lose that scholarship. Entering the portal is not some flippant decision.

They need to fix this asap. The nfl stops trading weeks before the playoffs for a reason. Let the portal be open a month after playoffs.
NFL players don't have to enroll in school. The players transferring have to enroll in the school they are transferring to. Hard to do in the middle of January.

Imagine your team winning a natty just a couple of weeks after you hit the transfer portal and your impatience caused you to miss out on a ring.
Stay and you may see the field or go where you can start.
Maybe they know they are leaving regardless of the reason.
Why hang around if you are decided you are gone.
Life is more important than winning a natty in some cases.
Applaud them for making the decision early vs later.
Everybody and anybody is replaceable.

Kids these days are entitled and think they deserve it now. If they can’t get it here they’ll downgrade and play somewhere.
How can you blame a young man for wanting a starting position? How can you fault a young man for wanting to earn better pay? NCAA set portal dates, not head coaches or players. Smith might hurt us, but we will manage. Good luck to the portal kids and thanks for playing for The Big Orange.

If a player is more interested in transferring than setting on the bench or getting a couple of snaps during playoff games he's probably better off moving on.

I can blame whoever I want. Just like you don’t have to. These pesky little things called opinions. I in no way said we were hurting due to transfers. I however am one of the ones that thinks money has ruined the sport and any loyalty it used to have. Kids used to be okay waiting a year to earn a spot at a school they loved. Now if they can go to next school and get a free tank of gas and a weekend stay in gatlinburg they’re gone. I firmly believe most kids leave looking for a potential payday, not PT. I’m well aware it is what it is and isn’t going anywhere. Doesn’t mean i have to like it.

Entitled? 😂 Several of these guys were encouraged to leave.
I’m sure coach H told you this at dinner last night. I highly doubt we “encourage” anyone to leave that is currently getting PT. Coaches like having depth and it’s very important over the gauntlet of a schedule. You’re just part of the “anyone leaving doesn’t hurt us and is an upgrade” crowd. Sometimes people leave that we prob didn’t want to. That’s life.

Such a simpleton way to look at it. It’s a business and they are well within their right to seek out the best opportunities for themselves…..just like anyone else in the workforce. Sorry it hurts your feelings.
Doesn’t hurt my feelings a bit. Affects me 0 as a matter of fact. I’m sorry opinions hurt your feelings. You may want to cancel your internet provider. Lots of scary opinions out there on the WWW. Looks as if your mental fortitude may not be able to handle them.

Maybe Jalen Smith he’s been playing well as of late. Keith could have grown into a fullback role I guess. Otherwise think we are in good shape comparatively
Keith has 31 carries in 2 years. He's already 4th and we have 2 more coming in.

Don't like away, you might do the same thing in their place,But no you do not have the right to blame the coach or kids for what the NCAA did. Unsaddle that high horse

A little sensitive aren't we. Blaming whoever, get you nowhere. I must have quoted the wrong person, but you took it to a different level I agree with most of what you stated. It is what it is and what it has changed in the landscape of college sports. You don't have to like it, but you got to accept the change an run with it. Bidding wars and handouts didn't start 3 years ago, it started in the 60s.

I am not sure for a couple of these kids why they don’t wait a couple of weeks and experience a college football playoff game then go into the portal. Is there some kind of timing thing with the winter semester?
