I don't understand why Strong would be such a great hire....are we forgetting that just a couple years ago Florida didn't want him as a head coach and instead hired a different DC as a head coach?

The only guys on his list I could stomach were Gruden, Mullen, and Strong. If we hire Kirby Smart I will sell everything I own with a UT logo on it.

For those that didn't see it, it also had...

Briles
Butch Jones
Tubberville
He mentioned Fedora

Shockingly no Golden

Or fisher

Please tell me why Strong would be a great hire? I'm trying to understand why some folks are high on him. I look at his record as a head coach and his team's recruiting rankings then add a bonus point or two for his UF experience and it still doesn't come close to equaling a home run hire.

Who would be a "home run" then? Gruden? Gruden has zero college head coaching or recruiting experience.

What's wrong with Strong's record at Louisville? He's 23-13 and has demonstrated an ability to be able to recruit there. I also think Tennessee needs a defensively-minded head coach for obvious reasons.

Give me some proof on recruiting, I've heard the opposite.

LOL. How much difference between sec and nfl?

That's not what you stated initially is it? Good try though. The whole pro to college thing isn't a sure fire translation, everybody knows that. Would he help.recruiting? Absolutely. Would he be a home run hire, who knows. He never was rookie friendly, yet now he can coach college kids?

that list sucked money nuts to be honest.

Monkey? If so, I agree. Dooley happened because Hamilton puckered up after a few turn downs. I'd rather go the interim route for a season ala Arky and wait for an A-lister than to hire out of desperation now.

Teddy Bridgewater. The fact that he's gone 7-6, 7-6, 9-1 in three seasons and they went 6-6, 5-7, 4-8 in the three seasons before he was hired.

I imagine he did a little recruiting at Florida as well. You guys think Florida not promoting him to HC after Zook's dismissal is a knock against him; well, he was also retained by Meyer after he joined the Gators.

Coaches I would take over Strong:
Gruden
Mora Jr
Patterson
Petersen
Stoops
Fisher
Petrino
Roman
Fulmer

Because he's not Gruden honestly. I have listed many times the pluses of Strong. UofL d before and after Strong, UF D's before and after Strong, his record. The mess he walked in to. Recruiting, etc. It doesn't matter Gruden fans wont listen to any of it. It's Gruden or bust for them, I feel bad for them when the bust part happens.

If Strong comes, we land Ramsey, Hatcher, Bell, Lawson, and Levenberry. That alone should make you want him.

Please not strong. He's a decent coach. Sure he is 9-1 but it's hard to take that record seriously when his team plays in the Big East. Also to note, his team is losing to a poor Uconn team right now. I'm just not sold on Strong. If we don't get Gruden, I wouldnt mind seeing Mullen. He's done alot with very little.

That's really unfortunate, because I don't believe Gruden is coming here. Hiring Gruden shouldn't even be an expectation, but that's what any non-Gruden hire is going to be compared to.

Those bolded names would either never leave their current positions or you're nuts for wanting them. Bob Stoops is going to leave Oklahoma? Really? I thought this was a serious conversation. How many programs does Petrino have to implode to dissuade people from wanting him as a head coach? C'mon

How many ranked teams has Mullen beat? And he's an awful recruiter that burned a lot bridges in Mississippi.

Look at Louisville's record before Strong. They were an absolute mess before he arrived. You really think a coach shouldn't be hired based on the result of a single game that's still in progress?

Why in the hell would Dan Mullen come to Tennessee? He's already an SEC head coach who has completed a reclamation job.

I'm surprised that Gruden was addressed at all. It was like placing a hand picked filet station on a buffet, then talking up the burgers and mashed potatoes.

HE hasn't completed anything. His 60th ranked recruiting classes will take effect next year. That roster is not pretty next year.

Yep. It's fine to talk about the possibility of Gruden coming to Tennessee (because it probably does at least exist), but people need to remove that from being an expectation.

A great hire that isn't Gruden is going to be written off immediately based upon an expectation that should have never exited. It's insane.

I agree with everything you said. Most people don't think realistically, they want the big name or nothing. Gruden and Stoops are not coming period. If Gruden did miraculously come, we'd be in the same boat in 2-3 years. IMO he wouldn't stay long. Which is another reason Strong works for me, long term stability. In 3 years our fanbase would see why Strong is a good hire.

Who do you think Tennessee should hire? If you say Gruden, I can come up with all sorts of reasons for caution. You can do that with any candidate.
