I was really disappointed in listening to Haney at the half. Really down played Gruden, maybe that was a corporate decision, but agree with several here that Strong was discussed at length. I'm not sure how credible Haney is with our program, but his report seemed way off to me. ** Side note, seems like some of the insiders are now crawfishin' a little about Gruden. It's not fair if someone other than Gruden gets the job as alot people here at VN will make him look like 2nd hand hire. Not good for recruiting. I can support Gruden, Strong, Mullen, Mora Jr, Patterson, a few others.

Solid post, very objective IMO. To be honest at this point I think everyones list is off. All these rumors make my head hurt, I wish this was all over with.

Who has he beat? He has feasted off the bottom of the SEC and OOC opponents. His recruiting at MSU has been awful, and he has ruined relationships at many of the prominent MS high schools because he's an arrogant prick.

Again, I've linked to a couple of sites that has him as a top 30 recruiter. Where are your numbers coming from?

I haven't heard many "Grudenites" say that's Gruden or bust. IMO, he would be much better than some names being tossed about, but I could certainly get behind Stoops, Gundy, Patterson, Strong, etc.

But the true "OG's" haven't wavered from Day 1, despite info that is rather persuasive and contrary to their position. I'm riding with them until the end, whatever it may be.

Top 30? That the best you got? He was handed guys like Brassell, Johnson, etc... yet he screwed it all up by being a prick.

Top 30 at Miss State. Last I checked it's hard to convince 18-year-old kids to come play for a non-traditional power in Starkville, MS.

I'm starting to think your 60th ranking was BS.

60 was hyperbole. I think he averaged about 32-35 since he's been there. And no it's not hard to convince a kid to come toa non-traditional power if you are a good recruiter. Ask yourself why Houston Nutt dominated him on the recruiting trail for the top MS prospects. It's because the main HS cosches in that state hate Mullen. You also haven't listed the ranked teams he's beat since he's been there.

MSU has always had top 30 classes, always. I like Mullen but dont confuse MSU with Vandy.

...and we know all about the success Nutt had with those recruits.

Houston Nutt was only coach he could beat in west before his huge win vs Auburn this year where he got a Gatorade bath for beating. Keep Mullen as far away from UT as you can. There's a reason Foley wouldn't even contact him when Florida's job came open.

Jon Gruden trancends this qualification. Hell any NFL coach would be welcomed for the most part. This primarly goes for the candidates in the college game.

Its like if a mid level fast food company has a job opening for a CEO. Preferably a CEO with experience in the industry. But if Warren Buffet is interested then sure we will take him!

You can say that again. Charlie Weis might be the most overrated head coach in any sport ever.
