Trevor Etienne Portal Rumors

Agents leaking names to coaching searches to get a raise, players leaking rumors about entering the portal in search of NIL money. As the world turns...
The game is forever changed. It's always been a business, but the illusion of how we thought the game was has been stripped away and it's kinda....well... ugly for lack of a better descriptor. Yeah, reality sucks sometimes.

Our perception of the game is changed, for sure. Gone is the pretense some held that they cared about the players as people. In truth, many only care about what the players can do to benefit the team they love. How could anyone who legitimately cared about the player not support their ability to profit better in another location or for another team? The sacrifices the young men have made and continue to make is beyond what most of us could even conceptualize.

The perception of HOW valuable some players are to schools has changed. When NIL first began to gain headway lots of people on VN were saying "the scholarship is enough compensation and the players are just greedy" but the NIL compensation is showing that wasn't true when the market became open.

Some players IMMEDIATELY were compensated in million dollar contracts + that "good enough compensation" college scholarship. The market was broken BEFORE NIL started, obviously.

What I dislike is blaming the young players who've done nothing but be born during this time. It's not them "creating" this. The schools, NCAA, fans, and boosters created this market, let it get completely upside down with "bag money," then turned it loose.

If it sucks to be a fan, booster, school or the NCAA...... check the mirror. You wanted these sports widely televised, highly paid by those media companies, etc.

My bet is that you’re right. Student-athletes are now professional athletes in the collegiate sports marketplace. And they’re getting a free education. They are to be bought and sold just like the pros. I won’t be surprised if some day soon college football teams will be trading players and have a televised draft day.
Not gonna lie, this made me lol. Be like early signing day edition 2. Tune in to see where your favorite players are going to be playing next year! 🤣

How do you change the font color?
When using the mobile website, click the three dots to the right of the “I” and it will bring a drop down. There you will see a color palette. I’d assume the web version would be the same or similar. :)

NIL needs to be banned from recruiting high-school players. Transfers? Maybe NIL, haven't made up my mind. But this current notion that bribery is the way to build a good team is nonsense--corruption--and not what college should be about. It is not how NIL was conceived.
It is exactly how NIL was conceived.

The NCAA tries that and they will be hit with antitrust lawsuits so fast it will make your head spin.

I keep reading that NIL is now free agency. Wrong! Free agency requires you to fulfill a contract first while the portal allows you to transfer at practically any time. There should be some financial offset's that encourages players to remain a certain amount of time. We are creating a bunch of quitters by monetary means.

Lol. You don’t think buying players happened before NIL? Not saying there shouldn’t be any guidelines, but come on man.

Saw an article today that said a good transfer QB now “costs” $1 to $2 million. Players were certainly getting compensated before but it’s a different world today. No pretense anymore.

I was told tonight that Riley Leonard is getting a $1 million to leave Duke and go to Notre Dame.

I never thought about it In some instances a team might be better off getting its QBs out of the portal. They have experience and you have seen them play at an advanced level. You kind of know what you’re getting. Whereas with a player coming out of high school is a little more of a risk.

Sometimes I guess. For example I think Notre Dame wasted their money on Sam Hartman. I didn’t think he was very good this year. Some games really badly inaccurate.

We’ve had success w/ Hendon. Milton is serviceable, obviously a hot button topic. Caleb Williams won a Heisman as a transfer QB, so did Burrow. The PAC 12 QB’s last night were transfers. If Drake Maye’s family wasn’t UNC royalty and he had gone to a Bama or UGA, he’s possibly winning a Heisman trophy this season. I’m sure I’m leaving some out. The portal QB has turned into FA starting pitcher. This years Heisman trophy winner will be a portal QB.

I sure hope I’m wrong about this…. but I’m afraid this off-season we will see the transfer portal in college football become like a free agency system more than in the past. I think all programs will have to support and rally for more money for their NIL programs until this thing can be brought under control. Maybe it won’t and I’m just being an alarmist but already it seems discussion and activity is picking up.
We are already there amigo.

Pretty sure I saw a quote on Twitter that money isn’t a priority, he wants to go somewhere that can win games. Ouch
