Trevor Etienne Portal Rumors

I sure hope I’m wrong about this…. but I’m afraid this off-season we will see the transfer portal in college football become like a free agency system more than in the past. I think all programs will have to support and rally for more money for their NIL programs until this thing can be brought under control. Maybe it won’t and I’m just being an alarmist but already it seems discussion and activity is picking up.
Hate it !

Claiming free adults (18+) do not and should not have agency and autonomy over their name, image, and likeness is an odd hill to plant an absurd flag. Especially egregious when you consider the institution and governing body both have ownership on copyright, intellectual property, brand, and licensing over the very same entertainment (sport) the athletes are participating in.
Players should have agency and autonomy other their name, image and likeness. However, they are not being compensated for name, image and likeness. They are being compensated for potential athletic performance. They are in fact professional athletes.

This (NIL this) is not going to be easy putting the toothpaste back in the tube. Think of it as a temporary toll fee

Agreed about the ship sailing on NIL. The problem became when the NCAA AND the conferences AND the schools and the coaches walked off with millions every year and oh by the way the players get $25K or $30K in room board and tuition. Anybody putting that disparity in front of a judge and/or jurors was going to get their clocks cleaned in court and have a judge split the pot up to the players overall favor. They're lucky with NIL being allowed.

You’re right on target. Also, NIL is now trickling down to high school football. If something isn’t done, we won’t recognize college football in a couple of years.

This really is a weird time we’re in considering the history of college athletics, but I don’t disagree with y’all talking about the many millions being made off these guys. However, I also don’t disagree with the old school folks talking about earning that ridiculous paycheck in the Pro’s. I, myself, in my career generate far more money than I bring home.
