TExas chews coaches up and spits them out. Let's say they are trying to get Tony? The fact they would fire a successful coach is a major red flag. Tony is set here. It's not easy to get a good coach to leave their comfortable situation that pays well. Look at the results of anyone who has done a search lately. Lakers couldn't even get the Connecticut coach to leave.
Wanted no part of the Lebron show and baggage.....

I remember Tim Brando saying that one thing fans don't think about when coaches leave (or may leave) is their behind-the-scenes relationship to the staff and boosters. It's not just about money, recruiting grounds and facilities. Does the HC get overly annoyed with boosters? Do they like the support staff? Do they get along with AD? etc. I think we now have top-notch leadership that will make our coaches happy. We definitely have the money too.

Randy Boyd is not only an incredible leader and businessman, he is passionate about baseball! We have the right leadership and support system to keep CTV on Rocky Top for a long time!

I’m not saying he does, but IF Tony did hate our boosters, he certainly wouldn’t even entertain taking the Texas job because those boosters will be way more invasive and demanding and difficult to work with than those at Tennessee.

Am I the only one that thinks this statement from CTV may have been frustration with Zane Denton?

“ While I'm at it, anybody that's thinking about visiting our place that we're recruiting and you think this is a place you can come and have your hand out and see how much money we can give you, don't waste our time and don't waste your time either.”

Yes.

He’s talking about one of the transfer portal players that visited this past weekend that committed to Florida.

Not at all. It was likely one of the visitors UT hosted for Supers or the kid who cancelled at last minute and signed elsewhere.

Don’t be naive. I am a proud UT alum, but there are plenty of “best college towns” out there. The money does the talking.
My naivete left me a number of years ago, college man.

There's a rumor (probably from Texas fans) that he's already had conversations with the administration in Austin and they're offering him 3 mil, plus a truckload of NIL money once this season concludes. I sure hope it's just some wishful thinking on their part.

This was mentioned on Austin Sports Talk radio yesterday, not the specifics, but that Coach V would be towards the top of the list. He was the first person mentioned, assuming that the current Texas coach is let go after the CWS.

For what it's worth, I don't believe a word of this.

Texas wouldn't be going after anyone hard, until they had fired David Pierce first .... and there is nothing to indicate that they intend to do that. Pierce has made the College World Series 3 times in his 8 seasons at Texas, and done so as recently as 2022.

Of course, it could be insincere, but Vitello and Danny White often speak very highly of each other on both social media posts, and when speaking to members of the local sports media.

Also mentioned on Austin Sports Talk was the the Texas AD, Chris Del Conte. tends to have the next guy lined up before firing the current.

I spammed the associated sports talk text thread that Texas is dreaming.

I do not believe that they make offers to coaches of other schools, before firing their current coach.

Agreed. Talk about disrespectful to your current coaching staff. Coaching is also like a fraternity in many aspects. I can’t imagine many coaches worth their salt would be okay with interviewing for a job without a vacancy, because I imagine that would also raise a red flag and make them wonder if this will happen to them as well if they don’t perform.

You are probably right that they don't extend a formal offer before firing.. but they could still have things lined up in theory. The communications get a little nebulous. i.e. the involvement of agents, "gauging/expressing interest" etc.

Anyway, I'm just passing along what was said by Kevin Dunn, who is a long term and well connected and respected figure in the sports scene down here and was on the Longhorn network. He's said Tony V. had indicated at some point that UTjr was a dream job. Hopefully that was said before Tony V got to the REAL UT and this all goes away quietly, I'd get physically ill if Coach V left us for the longhorns.

Texas is TV’s dream job. LSU is TV’s dream job. Arkansas is TV’s dream job. I have heard that basically every big program is TV’s dream job at this point so that just doesn’t carry any weight with me anymore, personally.

Sports talk show hosts are at liberty to not only spread unfounded rumors, but they also have complete freedom to be wrong, without being held accountable for their misinformation. They just assume all is forgiven and forgotten, and then move on to the next item, as if nothing ever happened. It's not easy to keep listeners interested in sports talk in June. At times, they become desperate for things to talk about. I do not believe that Tony Vitello or anyone who represents Vitello has been contacted by the University of Texas administration to gauge his interest in a job, which is not currently vacant.

I gotta be real, the TV to Texas rumors are really bothering me. I think it’s a bad look for them to take the spotlight off of the teams trying to compete in Omaha and it’s taking the excitement of this weekend away from me. South Carolina fired and hired their coach quickly. They didn’t make a spectacle of it. I really really hope if Tony has communicated with TX it was to respectfully decline. I don’t even want to think what losing him would mean to our fanbase.

That will go with the territory of having Texas in the SEC.

SEC fans will have to get used to it. Whenever a successful young coach emerges, there will be rumors that he/she is headed to Texas .... whether they have an opening or not. It never comes to pass, however. Texas has an inflated sense of who they are.
