Trump Admin Blocks Fauci From Testifying Before Congress

The models were predicting 60,000 to 70,000 deaths; now, with the relaxation of stay at home and social distancing, the models estimate the number of dead at 137,000.

IHME | COVID-19 Projections

That increase is a DIRECT result of Trump and the GOP promoting reopening early.

You can debate whether its worth it. I suppose if you survive and your stock portfolio does a bit better, you might think so. But if you are a family member of one of the 70,000 that die in the next few months, you might think differently.

The number of deaths are going to be determined by how many deaths are needed to beat President Trump. I can see a scenario where 2 weeks before the election some will attempt to increase the number of deaths into the millions. Just like Puerto Rican hurricane deaths

My point is that unless you want to continue the shutdown permanently (or until vaccine) then these deaths from Covid will occur sometime.

The stock portfolio comment is complete BS and shows you aren't serious about discussing the issue and associated tradeoffs.

Why?

Its true. Trump and Republicans, including many here, cite short term economic effects of closures as a reason to accept higher death rates.

Its just a question of balance. Theoretically we could all be safer and avoid injuries by living in individual rooms with foam coverings, and never leave. But we elect to take the risk and live a happier lifestyle.

Airbags make our cars cost more, but we pay it for safety.

This is another trade-off. Those of us who adhere to the science just think we should take a slower approach, that's all.

We pay for airbags because the f...ing government mandates it

If the economy doesn't restart fairly soon, the resulting depression is going to make the 30's look like a vacation.
The whole idea for this shelter in place idea was to slow the infection rate so the healthcare system isn't overrun and they've done that.

Actually you pay for the airbag because it’s mandated. It’s not an option.

I think you should be able to make that trade off and stay at home. I support your freedom, LG, despite my distaste of your penchant for authoritarianism.

Much of the adverse economic effects from shutting down will be permanent for many people and businesses. The balance should be open it up and everyone be cautious. Wear masks in crowded places, wash/sanitize often, protect the most vulnerable, keep testing, quarantine yourself if you're not feeling well. We have to move forward.

Right. I want us to all lose our jobs and the economy tank. You are foolish to think that. I think we can reopen if we ramp up testing and take precautions.
Easy to say that now when the damage to the economy is already done. You all could go ahead and say "mission accomplished"

That is their goal. They are sick for sure.

I think we could make a list of who is responsible for each individual and accountable death attributed to this virus, worldwide, and Trump ain't on that list.

Probability is showing what common sense shows, the elderly, and those with predisposed health issues, some self inflicted, some not self inflicted just unfortunate and unlucky enough to get life's middle finger to that individual no matter how unfair and sad, that those susceptible need to take heed, no different than any other day of normal life on this planet.

Do everything you can to avoid "it", and still, you might get "it". Same for who gave it to you. And so on. So, who is to blame? Man's ego thinking he can control mortality and the world around him.

Yep and yet Libs like LG still don't get it. They are stupid.

The opening fallacy of your argument is "higher death rates" when the reality is not a higher death rate (total deaths) but a faster time to that death rate.

Short term economic effects are different than the stock market which is just a dog whistle remark to trivialize concerns about the economy. Further, short term economic effects beget long term economic effects. It's not just about now and it's most certainly not about one's stock portfolio

You are ignoring part of the science (timing of deaths from Covid) just as you are ignoring the science of impacts of keeping things shut down.

Bottomline, you are ignoring all sorts of science to make your argument that you are just following the science.

It's just odd to hear that specific kind of criticism from a Trump cheerleader.

As an American who no longer has to worry about bad hair days...
But the point stands a United States Senator should do the state of Washington better than what she displayed today. Someone please get her in touch with the American hero salon owner Shelley Luther. But not too be confused with @luthervol

I will say in this virtual world we are in it lends itself to everyday things that are funny as hell. The reporter on the morning news wearing his suit jacket and his boxers. Now that was funny stuff there

Depends, he could be needed if it is a busy intersection.
