Trump on track for Supreme Court Victory on Census Citizenship Question

Based on the opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, it sounds like Trump could have had his critically important (in his mind) citizenship question on the Census, if it hadn't been for the contrived and dishonest justification for the question, by Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross. Ross was caught in a blatant lie. A senior adviser to Ross, James Uthmeier, confirmed that both Ross and his policy chief Earl Comstock, asked him to look into the legal arguments for a citizenship question on the Census in early 2017. That confirmation from Uthmeier directly contradicted a prior claim from Ross that he only chose to add the citizenship question after the Justice Department requested it to enforce the Voting Rights Act. Uthmeier complied with Ross's request and drafted a memo to John Gore in the Justice Department where he explained that enforcement of the Voting Rights Act could be effectively used as legal justification for a citizenship question on the 2020 Census, which the Trump administration desired. Only after receiving this memo from Uthmeier, did Gore then recommend the addition of the citizenship question to the Census.

So, basically... Wilbur Ross lied when he claimed that the Justice Department had recommended the citizenship question first. The Justice Department (John Gore, to be exact), recommended the question only after they had been prompted by Ross's senior adviser - James Uthmeier, in a memo.

If you want someone to blame here... you might look at the dishonesty and incompetence of Trump's own Secretary of Commerce. Wilbur Ross totally botched this for Trump. Instead, you are blaming Democrats. How about some accountability for mistakes? Ross blew it.

Ross is a liar ... and a crook. No wonder he's in this administration.

New Details About Wilbur Ross’ Business Point To Pattern Of Grifting

From the article:

Those who’ve done business with Ross generally tell a consistent story, of a man obsessed with money and untethered to facts. “He’ll push the edge of truthfulness and use whatever power he has to grab assets,” says New York financier Asher Edelman. One of Ross’ former colleagues is more direct: “He’s a pathological liar.”

They're illegals..... therefore I don't give a 💩
Just because someone is living in the United States and not an American citizen, obviously does not mean that they are here illegally. For example, Melania Trump became a permanent resident of the United States in 2001 but did not obtain U.S. citizenship until 2006.

Nationality and citizenship questions have been on almost every census in some form since about 1820 including the 2000 census. 1960 didn't specifically ask, but looking at the questions asked could provide indications to that.

The census changed it's whole format of questions in 2010.

If he wins to put this question on it in the next month or two you don't think he has the balls to say "throw them away and reprint?"

No, you're just in time.

If Trump doesn't like those reports, he should take it up with Ross. He was the source. It is not exactly "fake" news when there is a named source in the news reports and that source just happens to be in your cabinet ... It is obvious what happened here. Trump's attorneys informed him that an attempt to delay the Census as he suggested would be unconstitutional and a loser in court... In order to make the April 1st deadline, the questionnaires need to begin being printed. Trump just can't handle seeing the reports that he lost this particular fight and so he lies, and says it's fake. Trump is dishonest, petty and immature.

So Melania is a US citizen?

So if the goal is to conduct a complete and ACCURATE census, then whats wrong with knowing how many are in this country illegally or ones that are working on their citizenship?

That one question, would not establish who was here illegally or who was working on their citizenship. It would only establish who had already obtained citizenship and who had not.

I would consider that important information myself. I know our opinions will differ, but non-citizens should not count toward representation numbers IMO. Representation should apply to citizens only.

It's no mystery. The census will NOT have the question. Trump is just lying to his base - as usual - and many of them will believe the census WILL have the question.

Donald would love to believe he's above the law. But, alas, he's just not up to par with his idols from N. Korea and Russia.

Gaslighting 101 a la Trump.

Trump is a sore loser and he will call anything "fake news" that isn't favorable to him. He knows damn well that Ross was the source of that reporting and yet, we still get this fake news s*** from him. It has become such an old and worn out routine.

I can see the argument for both sides. According to the Department of Homeland Security, approximately 2.3 million immigrants are currently in the USA on some type of temporary visa. Those immigrants are in most cases, law-abiding people (we deport them if not) who are either in school or have a job (and in many cases, both). So, they are following our laws, contributing to our economy and filling needs in the workforce.

Did she swim across the Rio Grande?

There should be NOTHING confusing about Trump's tweet. Trump has a huge ego and he can't handle watching Fox News reports that show him losing a court battle and then giving up on a fight which he had touted as being "critically important". He will lie, call it "fake news" and claim that he is still fighting to get the citizenship question on the Census, even though the reporting was accurate and his administration has moved on from the issue. That tweet sums up Trump in a nutshell for being dishonest, petty and egotistical.

Baby steps. Why is it that you and some others are so opposed to finding out how many illegals there are and dealing with them?

He is becoming mire presidential then. You should be happy.

I'm not. I'm just pointing out how that one question on the Census form would do nothing to help establish who was here illegally.

'Via Gateway Pundit" check your source, those are the same people who gave us Jacob Wohl. It does appear, however, that per orders from Trump, the DOJ will reverse course from yesterday and still seek to get the citizenship question added... since Trump saw the reports regarding his defeat and his ego couldn't handle it. LOL! It's not happening. This is what an administration run by a narcissist looks like - pure chaos and disorder.
