Trump promises and proposals tracking thread.

One thing to not crap on DOGE for is having young people doing analysis. The entire government (and consultant) world runs on young analysts.

The thing to crap on them for is that the people actually making decisions either don't understand the data handed to them or don't know what to ask for, leading to the clownshow that is still continuing of cutting, rehiring, cutting, rehiring, de-funding, re-funding, de-funding, lying about savings, and on and on.
I agree.

I just don't believe that the employment description that Elon Musk provided to prospective applicants would have any appeal to people who are capable of performing such important analysis effectively.

My post wasn't only focused on their youth, as your post suggests.

I don't believe that highly skilled analysts are going to have any interest in the position that Elon Musk described as, "This will be tedious work, make lots of enemies and compensation is zero." Musk also told applicants to expect 80 hour work weeks.

Could I be wrong in that assessment? Possibly, but judging by some of the obvious mistakes that the DOGE is making .... I don't think that I am wrong.
You typed what you typed and your personal incredulity is your problem.

I think that you are still in whataburger mode. They found and interpreted hyroglyphs in an ancient scroll because of one of these burger flippers unpaid data analysis before he signed on to DOGE.

I was speaking tongue-in-cheek during a portion of it .... and you didn't get the drift. Lighten up, Francis. This is just a message board sub-forum.

.... and I don't know how burgers came into the discussion. LOL. That's all you.

I didn't say that these people should be flipping burgers. Basically, I don't believe that anyone who is capable of performing analysis of a federal agency effectively is going to have an interest in the work that Elon Musk advertised.

The DOGE has made some fundamental mistakes in analyzing data. It has led to some wildly inflated claims of savings. It's fair to question their credentials at this point.

It came into the conversation as a description of your apparent understanding of how these things work.

You just doubled down on it.

So much for your tongue in cheek claim. More like foot in mouth.

You don't have to understand it unless you want to **** all over it. Then it's pretty important. ****ting on it without understanding just because it's Trump is every bit as bad as rejoicing over it without understanding just because it's Trump.

Data analysis is a tough gig if you don't know what you're looking for. It also assists they don't have anyone checking their with before posting for the world to see. Maybe they don't know the tools well enough or are too reliant on AI

I understand what a blanket purchase agreement is. That is more than what can be said for the DOGE. LOL.

You are accusing me of attacking this because it's Trump .... but @ButchPlz has been critical of the DOGE as well. He has said that he voted for Trump in another thread. I'm attacking the DOGE for making some pretty serious errors.

This post would have made sense if you had **** on purchase agreements or if butch had posted as though unpaid data analysts were directing DOGE.

But as it sits it reads like a red herring.

The publicly stated agenda of their leadership could be getting in the way as well. Elon Musk said that the restructuring of the federal government will result in $2 trillion worth of savings for American taxpayers. It's just a guess, but the DOGE analysts could be feeling pressure to help reach that figure.

It is really fascinating how you lefties are fighting for a bloated, out of control government.

I have said that a periodic restructuring of the federal government is not only a good thing, but it's also very necessary .... and long overdue.

There is nothing wrong with the DOGE in theory. The problem is in their execution. There is an unprofessional and disorganized look to them, and they are making some big mistakes.

Their response to having these mistakes reported by the media, has been to eliminate transparency - which Elon Musk had pledged their work would have.

Good. I'm not a big fan of destroying someone's life for things done as a stupid kid. Do you have any insight into whether he's a good data analyst? Or whether he will be running things and firing people?
Eh, he is currently 25 years old and his "Just for the record, I was a racist before it was cool," post was just 8 months ago. So, he was at least 24 at the time. I think that's a little too old for the youth excuse, and a little too recent to be forgiven so quickly. That's just my opinion though.

Yep. That's pretty cringe.

I will say, seeing how conversations go on VN, it would be interesting to see contexts. Was it satire?

It would probably depend on whether or not you include his "Day One" promises. Trump makes a lot of silly hyperbolic promises that are unrealistic. His supporters never hold him accountable for those things.
Absolutely. Anything promised day one and does not occur until 60-90 days later is a complete and utter failure. You could not be more correct.

2 months later, he followed that up with, "Normalize Indian hate."

That was in response to a post about the number of people from India who work in Silicon Valley. I'm not seeing how that could be interpreted as being an attempt at humor.

Not so sure their capabilities are in question. I highly doubt the people on the Doge team are lacking in intelligence. But you raise a good point about knowing how to analyze the data being culled.

Personally, I believe they are finding a lot of problems of government run amok. Some may not be as bad as trumpeted while they could also be missing out on some that is even worse than their preliminary analysis.

But nothing like this has been undertaken within the Federal government. If one is like me and believes it is a barely functional bureaucracy, then it is cheered. If not of that persuasion, obviously not.
