TrumPutinGate

1. Comey was forced to do certain things with the Clinton e-mail investigation due to fake Russian intelligence.
2. Study shows the e-mail issue was a lot more prominent with voters than previously thought.
3. Russian interference impacted the election.

1 + 2 = 3

1. That is either:
a) a lie
b) shows Comey's incompetence
c) show's Comey seriously mistrusted Lynch and Obama
My guess is all of the above.

2. It should be and the Russians didn't force Hillary to lie, and break the law.

3. Neither article comes close to proving that.

You are reaching.

Luther - the stuff in the CNN article was not known to the public so the information was not an issue in the election.

Lynch compromised herself by meeting with Billy Boy and that was known by the public.

What Comey revealed in his press conference was not fake news - it was true information resulting from the investigation.

It's weak sauce to suggest Russian fake news that was unknown by the public was the reason Comey told the public about what they'd found on Clinton. Even the article notes he had several reasons for doing what he did.

The continual lies, obfuscation and destruction of evidence by Team Clinton capped by the secret meeting between Lynch and Bill was pretty much all the public needed to know.

Yes - saying Comey was "forced" is nuts. He made a calculated choice based on a number of factors. The CNN article has an interesting "if" chain. If the Russians released the fake information and if the FBI tried to counter it some sources/methods might be revealed. Plus, as the article states (clearly at the bottom), these considerations were just part of the calculus.

I lean to the whole story of there being intelligence the Russians were going to release an email from Lynch being complete fabrication.

Here's the other problem with this theory. The Comey press conference was heralded by Dems because he said there'd be no charges. It was considered vindication and it was Republicans upset by it.

What made Dems howl was when he reopened the probe after the new emails were found on the Weiner laptop.

So Comey's actions actually were beneficial at first then harmful later.

Keep watching.

They didn't know the stuff in the article, they knew what Comey said, and what Comey said and when he said it was impacted by the Russian disinformation.

The public's view of Clinton was tainted by fake news, as evidenced by your own comments.

I haven't denied fake news had a role in the public's view.

I'm saying that this particular example doesn't hold water since the Comey press conf was viewed as exonerating her and did not contain fake news. I disagree that what Comey said was impacted by fake news unless the "what" is that he closed the investigation which of course would have helped rather than hurt Clinton.

Let's not forget there was fake news aimed at Trump as well (maybe not by the Russians perhaps) so the public's view of Trump was also tainted by fake news.

None of this has anything to do with cooperation/collusion between Team Trump and Russia

Don't think of it as being forced by circumstance but rather the Head of the FBI let the russians think that they were getting away with it while not compromising an active investigation and its ability to collect information. It's the same reason Obama advised Comey to not go public with russia/trump related information during the summer when he was briefed on the situation.

I think we pretty much all agree that fake news is prevalent and has an impact on people's opinions (some more than others). We also agree that both sides are guilty. We will never agree on which side is more guilty or if they are equally guilty. We will also never know the impact the disinformation had on people's ultimate decision.

I think we all also agree that Russia was attempting to effect the election and were probably successful to some degree. We will never agree on the degree.

How much, if any, collusion was involved is the great unknown. That is what is being investigated.

"Ambassador Sergei Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, then President-elect Trump’s son-in-law and confidant, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications.
The meeting also was attended by Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.
The White House disclosed the fact of the meeting only in March, playing down its significance. But people familiar with the matter say the FBI now considers the encounter, as well as another meeting Kushner had with a Russian banker, to be of investigative interest."

Would like to remind people about that server in the basement of trump tower. The one that was communicating with the russian bank and Betsy Devos's husband's company.

I've literally gotten to the point that I dread when I get a push alert from a news outlet.
