TrumPutinGate

Yes, everyone knows how friendly putin and clinton were.

it ain't about friendship and if you don't think there was shadiness and influence selling in the Uranium One deal I don't know what to tell you.

I have no doubt Putin preferred Trump but that is irrelevant in examining the workings of a deal that occurred 5 or so years prior.

Curious if anyone thinks the Clinton campaign would turn down compromising info on Trump from Russia?

I'm sure they'd be smarter about how they arranged to access the information but pretty sure they'd lap it up.

The democrats are holier than thou. Would they lap up any dirt they could against the opposition, hell yeah!

This was lifted from the text of the Logan Act:

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

Call me after they bust Dennis Rodman, Sean Penn and a host of others for this.

I used to think djtj was one of the brighter offspring, not anymore. Wtf would he release this?

Did he think putting this out first is proof of no meeting with what he thought was a russian government official?

The whole family is a cartoon.

He released it because at the most it's bad PR. Without a doubt the release was ran by a lawyer or team of them first.

IANAL but is this a thing?

If anything, I'd say it'd be more likely they set him up

But one of their own staffers would leak the damning emails though and pay for it with his life.

Not trying to help the enemy but obviously Jane Fonda in Hanoi would have been a much better example than either one of those two... The Logan Act is never enforced.

You are going to some great lengths to defend people who have now been caught in a year's worth of lies. I highly doubt the last revelation has been made here. Would it surprise anyone to learn that there was coordination between Trump Jr and the timing of the wikiLeaks releases? We already know that as of this June 9th, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, the Russians were in possession of the hacked DNC e-mails and just waiting for the most opportune time to disseminate them. There is more to come.

So what your saying is Hillary and Bill should be indicted today.

I was responding to someone going at great lengths to find a crime in this meeting.

So far nothing indicates she was employed by the Russian government. That's yet to be determined.

An email saying I have info from the Kremlin at this point is like getting an email saying I'm a Nigerian prince who's money is being held...

She may well have been working on behalf of the Kremlin but you are correct that is unknown (one of the many exaggerations from Schiff today).

Lot's more questions to be answered - could be really bad or could be amateur hour by Team Trump. Clearly they've bungled how they've responded to the questions about Russia

Agreed.

This just keeps getting better and better.

That's stretching it a tad, don't you think?

I didn't write the law. Just dropping it off here for the armchair constitutional scholars.

Though, I'd say soliciting dirt on a rival from a foreign national fits that pretty succinctly.

Would the dirt constitute "something of value"?

Apparently complaints have been filed with the justice dept. Not that it'd amount to anything rich politicians don't go to jail.

How would this apply to the unidentified Democrat who solicited the dossier on Trump or the Clinton campaign members who met with Ukrainians about dirt on Trump?

Seems there'd be some first amendment implications here...

Link?

Sounds just as shady.

Maybe we should all agree that going to our enemies for political dirt to be used in a presidential election is low rent.
