This was lifted from the text of the Logan Act:

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

I'll be honest - I agree... terrible optics, and pretty shady to meet under those pretexts, however not evidence of collusion w Putin or anything having to do w illegally obtained info that Dems have been screeching about.

Looks like he'll be drug before the intel committees and have a lot of questions to answer.

If this is the worst of the "collusion" narrative then it's still a nothing burger. However there's no telling what conclusions politically-driven investigations come to.

The date of this meeting between the Russian government rep, Donny Jr., Kush, and Manafort, was June 9. Was supposed to happen about 3 pm or a little later, and supposedly lasted a short time.

Trump was upstairs and claims that he had no knowledge of it.

At 4:40 p.m. on June 9, 2016, that very afternoon and what would be perhaps an hour after the meeting, Trump posted his first tweet about Clinton's missing emails.

I know that he's lying. That in and of itself doesn't prove a criminal act. Again, I haven't seen any evidence that the information (if there was any exchanged) was illegally obtained. If someone calls and says that they have connections to a foreign government and through those connections they learned some damning stuff about your opponent... I think most people meet with them.

More may come out. Was anything received? What did Trump do with it? How was that evidence obtained? etc etc etc.

I used to think djtj was one of the brighter offspring, not anymore. Wtf would he release this?

Did he think putting this out first is proof of no meeting with what he thought was a russian government official?

That is my thought as well. It had to be coming out. No way he just randomly owns this 1year+ after it occurred. Unless it is part of Trump's grand scheme to keep America occupied while he saves the US.

I guaran-dam-tee you that this is EXACTLY what he thought. Or was told by his circus freak lawyer, who is in this deeper than even he is.

Put it out before the NYT, the FBI, or the Senate did. Try to make it look like you are being forthcoming, when in reality you have lied about this EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

If it were occurring in a vacuum, I might agree with you.

But this is basically about the 100th time this outfit has been caught lying about the Russia issue. Its starting to make people think, hmmmm, why do they keep lying about this ?
