US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.
The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.

Sources say the second warrant was part of the FBI's efforts to investigate ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives.*Such warrants require the approval of top*Justice Department and FBI officials, and the FBI must provide the court with information showing suspicion that*the subject of the warrant may be acting as an agent of a foreign power

the FBI conducted a search of a storage facility belonging to Manafort. It's not known what they found.
The conversations between Manafort and Trump continued after the President took office, long after the FBI investigation into Manafort was publicly known, the sources told CNN. They went on until lawyers for the President and Manafort insisted that they stop, according to the sources.

Between that and the news today that the White House is hiding documents in a safe and keeping them from investigators, I'd say the stuff is nearing the fan.

Since that reporter was sitting 2-3 feet away in a public place he should have whipped out his handy dandy recording device and recorded the conversation.

It was a matter of when not if. It's never good when the Feds show up at your door before dawn with a no knock warrant. I guess now it's wait and see if he seeks an immunity deal.

Wouldn't need one, if he's got dirt on Trump he could pardon him at anytime. That's better than immunity, a pardon can't be revoked.

A federal judge authorized it. This means a federal judge reviewed evidence and concluded that there was probable cause that Manafort engaged in crimes or was an agent of a foreign power. There is not a positive spin to this for Manafort.

That's ok with me if he does pardon him. It will speak for itself. But he may be indicted on State charges also.
