TrumPutinGate

Collusion is not a crime, obstruction of justice is a crime. Trump did both, it's obvious. Given the irrational loyalty of Trump's 35% base within the Republican party, however, I too doubt that a Republican Congress would ever have the nerve to do the right thing with him.

Does Mueller need more ammo to get to the top on any collusion type crimes?

Collusion is not a criminal offense. If he agreed to go light on Russia on sanctions or otherwise, either because they helped him win, because he owes them financially, or because they have dirt on him personally, the result SHOULD be that he is removed from office as it is effectively a form of treason.

But as others have pointed out that is largely a political question, and though I have no doubt that if proven to be the case 99 % of the Congress (including Republicans) would think it disqualifying, the fact is they are afraid of his 35 % and that they would buy into the claim that s just the establishment out to get him because they never liked him.

Obstruction, however, is a crime. The reason the tweet over the weekend was so significant is that it admitted that Trump knew that Flynn had lied to the FBI. Note that Trump -- who at one time took credit with the Russians for firing Comey as taking care of the Russia problem -- now claims that Comey is lying when he said that Trump pressured him to drop the investigation into Flynn.

So it comes down to who you believe, Comey, or Trump. Or even more particularly, do you believe Comey and 4 month-ago Trump, or just Trump this weekend. If:

1) Trump knew Flynn lied to the FBI;

and

2) Trump tried to get Comey to back off of investigating him,

then that is almost certainly obstruction.

And then of course you add on the firing of Comey, to boot.

I find it noteworthy that last week Sessions met privately with the House committee and was asked point blank whether Trump has ever pressured him to interfere and drop the Russia investigation.

Sessions refused to answer the question.

No matter how many times you say it, it won't make it true.

Its amusing watching you justify when and how you know Trump is lying. He was lying then but not now. or this is a lie to cover up the earlier truth. keep spinning.

this continues to be my problem, no consistency. in the charges, in the investigation (as presented), in the standards used. I really hope the actual investigation is much more organized.

If helps to keep the notion that we don't know everything. I hope they are taking a better approach than us.

To all you on the impeachment train. Busting your bubble.

Impeachment resolutions are typically referred to the House Judiciary Committee, which serves as the first place for debate and investigation into whether the articles warrant a full hearing by the House. With the Republicans in firm control of the chamber — and the Judiciary Committee gavel — the chance that they receive any real hearing there is next to none.

thats my point. you guys celebrate each and every time something new comes out, as you "have got him now". and then nothing, it gets disproved (lots of fake news, as much as i hate the term), or forgotten as the MSM must constantly come up with new charges, "evidence", anon sources, to keep their faithful happy.

This investigation is totally compromised. Time to shut it down and quit wasting people's time and tax payer money.

It's already being wasted on a scale so grande, this show is worth every penny to a vast number of Americans.

Trump and his nuthuggers know it's about to get bad, so they are now so desperate all they can do is attack the voice that is about to tell the truth about Trump.

We can only pray that the GOP Congress has the integrity to refuse Trump's invitation to ignore what's coming out, and just go after the messenger.

You can judge dotard donny's butt pucker by the inclusion of crooked Hillary in his tweets.

What's coming out?

They got Flynn for lying, same as they got Martha Stewart for.
Manafort's charges have nothing to do with the campaign. So?

That worked well.

OT, I know no one cares at this point but Butch Jones kept more of the instate talent than Fulmer did. At least as long as they have been keeping record on major recruiting (1994 or so).

You still can't win with just TN boys.

Mueller is not stupid. Neither is the establishment, whether it be GOP or Dem.

Have you had conversations with Trump people lately? I don't just mean the Republicans that held their noses and voted for him out of habit, but those that wore the hats, or joined in on the "lock her up" chants, or post pictures of Obama that make him look like a Muslim or an ape. Those Trump supporters are beyond all rational thought. Literally everything they hear that's bad they knee jerk reject it as fake.

Mueller and everyone with any sense in the beltway knows that those supporters of Trump are going to go off the deep end when the reality hits them that they elected a guy who said on the one hand "Make America Great Again," and on the other hand sold us out to the Russians.

So he is building a case from the inside out. That is, the sources of the evidence have got to be people from inside Trump's campaign and inner circle. The conclusion has to be ironclad, the proof incontestable.

Even then, we all know there are some so devoted to Trump, and so willing to believe anything he tells them, that its going to get ugly. Folks like Hannity, etc, will make support for Trump a litmus test for whether you are really a Republican.

So Mueller is taking his time and building this from the ground floor, with the information from sources you just cannot question because they are, themselves, Trump loyalists.

I'm frankly surprised it is moving along as quickly as it is. Wait until they want to interview Pence or Trump. That's when you will know the table is set, and its just a question of whether they get them for lying to them, just like Flynn did, or whether they get them for obstruction if they tell the truth and admit the effort to stop the investigation.

God I hope Mueller interviews Pence and Trump and end this charade so we can go on and whoop that ass again in 2020.

I do not discount the possibility that the economy continues to improve, the Republicans generally take credit for it, and they remove Trump and his administration from the equation. They could put up someone sensible in '20 and hold the WH for 12 years.

They could also screw it up completely. And circling the wagons around Trump out of fear of what his base would do might be their biggest mistake.

Neither Trump or Pence will be interviewed by Muller's goon squad. Not happening.

honestly, this would not surprise me as the end game. The goal probably isn't to find evidence of an impeachable crime anymore. Its just to keep the investigation going long enough where it carries over to the next elections.

Partisan hackery at its best/worst. Let me ask the crowd, what is the timeline here? Do we let this carry over to year 3? At this rate at best/worst its mid 2018 before anything happens. 1.5 in 2.5 to go with a long drawn out court case. can it go for 2/3 years? at that point, what is the point? By the time anything is decided he is probably gone anyway.

This is what it's all about. Muller will start digging into areas completely unrelated to the election trying to find anything and anyone to charge.
