Tubby Smith Out at Minnesota

Wow, what a dumb move! Come on Minn, show Tubby some respect. I know he bleeds the blue blood of UK,, but I love him is a coach. He brought Minn basketball to the spotlight for the first time in it's history. Guess Minnesota wants it's bball to be a bottom feeder instead. Hope Smith gets another shot!

Clem Haskins says hello. Led them to the final four in 97.

Still, to say Minn has no history in basketball is false. Tubby was doing about as well as anyone should be expected at that job. Mistake to fire him unless they have another big name lined up.

This is one of those cases where perception is reality, and Minnesota is simply not a destination job.

I'll correlate it to Oregon State football; Mike Riley may have his teams average to above average most seasons with a chance to compete for the conference every now and then, but he's got all the job security he needs because the AD knows their role and that Oregon State simply isn't a big name program.

I can't see this situation as anything other than Minnesota's AD getting too big for their britches. Firing Smith was a colossally stupid move. Yeah, he wasn't fielding elite teams in the Big Ten, but any coach who's good enough to pull that off won't be coaching there any time soon.

As I recall, he is from upper east coast.

He just going where ever the green leads him. His wife not all that keen on Fort Myers

She kinda the Layla Kiffin of basketball...big city girl

If she's the Layla Kiffin type, being 30 min from Naples is infinitely better than Minneapolis. The Lee-Collier county metro area is like 600k people, I can't imagine simply adding another half million people makes life that much better. I was born in Ft. Myers, grew up 30 miles inland and spent just about every weekend over there and although I personally wouldn't want to live there, there's a hell of a lot worse places.
