Tucker Carlson Obsession Thread (merged)

So what are people's guesses as to the why?

a) TC's decision (I think we'd have heard about that by now)

b) A fight over money. Certainly has to be on the list.

c) TC genuinely conflicted about staying pro-Trump moving towards 2024 but the network was demanding it whereas TC thinks its time for new blood.

d) Murdoch embarrassed by revelations of how much TC protested the editorial influence of corporate leadership in 2020/21. Also in my view highly possible.

Those are just some theories. Complete speculation right now.

I think 'D' mixed with the fact that he was a giant contract. Might be nice to free up some cash when you're looking at a $1 billion settlement to pay off.

Definitely. He will be paid the balance remaining on his contract, as long as he doesn't sue, signs an NDA and agrees not to be critical of the network.

They will pay him a fortune. He inked this deal just after Fox was hemorrhaging viewers to Newsmax because of their election coverage. I mean, to some degree, FN survived being crushed by Newsmax the last 2 years because Tucker stayed and then did more programing. That was what calmed the waters enough for Fox to reverse the losses of Maga voter watchers in early 2021.

Good. Tucker peddled in nonstop Alex Jones-esque conspiracy theories. I do not know this by watching Fox News, only by the boomer videos posted on Facebook.

Financially speaking, Carlson will come out ahead on this, at least in the short run ... but he will have a lower profile as a political analyst - for whatever that is worth.
OReilly got $25 million from Fox on his way out. Carlson will probably get more. Lemon will get millions to leave CNN. If that's what we are calling "getting fired" these days then count me in. Reminds me of College Football coaches walking away with millions after "getting fired". It's Ridiculous!

What do you mean "Tucker is the only issue?"

Don Lemon of CNN was fired today as well ... although, it probably didn't have anything to do with his reporting.

The constant references to anyone that is opposed to our involvement the Ukrainian War as some Russian agent BS.

Anybody done a welfare check on Franklin and Beathe?

A bit of irony in there in that, if you ask me, his reporting was often so stilted it shouldn't bother anyone that he has hit the bricks.

I don't watch CNN, so I really don't know much about him. I've read that he has been with the network for 17 years. That was surprising to me. I have only been reading things about him for 3 or 4 years. The only cable news show I watch is Rachel Maddow ... and she is only on Monday nights now.

I have a real fear that Jesse Waters is going to take that spot, either that time or become the heir apparent. Carlson is a smug SOB but Waters is off the charts. Really seems like the glib factor with him caps his upside potential.

Why do you fear JW taking the lead spot?

Doesn't matter, they will keep telling the same lies. Here he was, trashing Trump in texts while telling you all what you wanted to hear.

Truth free zone.

You watch Rachel maddow? 😂
There are some classic clips of that idiot spewing lies during Covid, gotten lots of laughs from them.

You probably "watch" NPR.

From a bow-tie-wearing conservative cub reporter at CNN to dominating right-wing media and reshaping Fox News in his image: How Tucker Carlson became the Nation's Most Successful Cable News Host

Tucker Carlson's three-decade media career saw him transform from a little-known, bow tie wearing CNN commentator to one of the most powerful figures in American media.

The 53-year-old is out at Fox News days after it paid $787.5 million to settle the Dominion lawsuit. He has spent years as the face of the network's political coverage through his hugely successful nightly show, Tucker Carlson Tonight.

Carlson divided opinion - and drew fierce criticism from the left - with his polemics on everything from the 2020 presidential election to the Black Lives Matter movement.
