To each his own but that chick can't act. I was embarrassed for her and she's a big part of the story from what I could tell. Goggins ain't good enough to make up for it.
It ain't for me, but I hope you enjoy err minute of it.
Well I like the game ALOT, so that helps. I have played every incarnation of it. I also love old sci fi, retro movie serials stuff from long before I was born....my dad grew up going to watch them as a kid in the theater on Saturdays, and we always had a collection of the rereleases at home on video. And stuff like Rocky Horror that made fun of them. It really reminds me of that. I like dark humor in anything, and it has megatons of it.
As for Lucy, I think the actress is pretty hawt, (short brunettes rule absolutely MY type) and as for her acting she plays her character very well actually. She is supposed to be naive, and clueless, that's sort of her character.....it totally makes sense for naive "vault culture" that she represents. Vault culture of course just representation of the naive innocences of 40-60s American culture. She has a high IQ but absolutely is ignorant of everything on the surface or how the real world works outside of her ultimate gated community. It's refreshing to see such a character to me, because in most new shows the female protagonist always has to be the smartest in the room, and as wise as 80 yr old sages. She kinda perfectly represents the over educated and under experienced college grad.
Goggins also makes up for any negatives.....he absolutely is the best western character since the original Clint Eastwood s'getti westerns. This character will be iconic. He's dark, sharp, individualist, bad ass looking, and a great character of all teh old western film stars.
I think the mistake is taking a show seriously though that is based on a franchise that has always made fun of itself, and in general makes fun of old sci fi tropes from the 50's. And makes fun of the darker side of DC politics, and history, and American culture. It's very much in the vein of Firefly, Brisco County Junior or other tongue and cheek shows that go for humor over realism..... I also love the Maximus character, because I get why he is the way he is, it's lost on non fallout playing people though, he took the "idiot savant" perk. All the main character's are based on character traits in the game....and the actor literally brilliantly plays the Idiot Savant play through...where you choose like 1 IQ point, and yet dumb luck seems to follow you. Its why he's so bad at verbalizing himself and gets himself in trouble because of poor choice of words, yuet always comes out on top anyway. But I think anyone who enjoys old sci fi would also enjoy it.
As the seasons progressess it becomes pretty clear the writers are pretty heavily commenting on the insanity of the past few years as well, and has very thinly veiled comentary.... their deffinately in the know, about more then a few things.
I dunno I would encourage you to give it another go and at least get 4 shows in. I think it has a great story, memorable characters and is alot of fun. It's currently 93% with the critics on the tomatometer, and 90% with audiances.... that should say something. Jonathan Nolan doesn't make crap, West World was great, The Prestige, and Memento likewise were great films.....he creates onions with layers.
