'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

Wow an article that doesn’t crown him as King
The differences of opinion between Rivals and 247 regarding Haynes and Bailey is unreal. They couldn't be further apart. One is about to elevate Bailey to a 5 star and isn't too impressed with King, while the other is considering dropping Bailey to a low 4 star or worse and has King as a 5 star candidate. Unbelievable.

This is why I think quarterback rating for hs QBs is kind of a crock. I'd the hardest position to rate imo. You won't really know til they get to this level and start playing.

I think both of these guys are really good. I don't think we'll go wing with either one... Or both.

My feeling is this: stop ranking guys on camps and watch the games. Some guys look fantastic in a camp setting when there is no pass rush. But when the lights are on, that's when the truly elite QB's reveal themselves. I remember this with Hunter Johnson. Guy was a 5 star committed to TN at one point, but I watched him play live on tv and he struggled mightily in the games. He couldn't handle a pass rush and consistently made poor decisions. Now look where he is. The same could be said for JG. He was a camp warrior because he has a cannon for an arm. But he has struggled reading defenses and getting the ball out on time.

I haven't seen King, but I have watched Bailey play several times. This kid thrives in games. That's what I'd pay attention to and not camps if I were rating them. I watched Bailey absolutely light Rome up last year. Even though his team lost the game, he had like 6 touchdown passes in that game and had them in position to win but Gilbert had 3 very costly fumbles. The guy can play.

Nah, hardest position to rate is OL. I would say QB is probably 2nd though
Ok... Either way you get the point...I just think there's a lot more to being a good/great QB than the mechanics. And camps are great for the measurables... But we all know what a great QB looks like in game situations.

Yep, practice professionals.

My dad when he was at UC shot around with the BB team, said there was one guy, all world next Oscar Robertson in practice, never played much in games, wasn't the same guy. But, in practice, you were watching royalty. Just couldn't/didn't translate onto the floor in real games.

How many guys is that true of? How many of these guys were MVP's of camps and elite 11 guys and they never did anything. Look at Blake Barnett. Look at Hunter Johnson. Heck, Felipe Franks was one of their top performers. He's awful.

Franks is getting better and better. There’s a stat that in his last 4 games he threw 12 TDs and no picks.

Barnett is trash but I’ll be interested to see how Johnson does at nu. Never thought he was that great but nu has great coaches so maybe they’ll turn him into an nfl player

Seemingly far more fail to live up to the hype as opposed to guys that rise and catch up over college years.

There are also the other casualties: grades, injuries, attitude, luck or lack there of, girl issues, home issues........ the gauntlet withers away so many not just because of over hyped/over exposure praise and expected ceilings that were over inflated or not really attainable.

Yeah its odd. Farrell basically takes a dump on the King hype in that article. It's like choosing a political party and supporting them no matter the issue. Rivals Votes Bailey. 247 Votes King.

Both king and bailey thrive in games. Both are very good QBs. Hopefully we get both.

The fact that JG was rated as a dual-threat was stupid to begin with.

His high school stats: 251 carries, 523 yards, 12 TDs, 2.1 YPC

You know who had a better yard per carry average than him and half the amount of rushing touchdowns on about a third of the carries? Quinten Dormady, who was rated as a pro-style QB.

Dormady's stats: 83 carries, 223 yards, 6 TDs, 2.7 YPC

Man!! This is what I have been screaming this kid is nothing special at all and he is basically on pace to average his high school stats,he hasn’t showed any improvement what so ever.JG is not the answer.he is a game manager and a Sh**y one at that. 2.1 YPC like whaaat👀😂 Nathan petermans stats were better..

I wonder if this is what Tucker's dad was referring to about 5 star status, what camps you attend, and who you break info too. That's my best guess. I just want the kid who can avoid a pass rush and get the ball to his playmakers consistently.
