'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

I've leaned A&M since it was reported it was 50/50, if it's a tie, why add extra travel expenses.

But I still hate losing at anything. I'm more than happy with Bailey but I'd still be smirking like a s.o.b if he surprised and chose TN.
I was gonna root for this kid before we even offered because I have friends that went to that school and were telling me about him all last season. So I watched a few games when they were on and saw how good he was. Then he started showing interest in us so I got real excited. I still hope he picks us but I'll root for him at a&m if he goes there. Kid is gonna be really good. He's a good kid and has 1st round talent for sure. So does bailey though.

Here’s the latest on four-star quarterback Haynes King of Longview (Texas) High School, who’s believed to be moving closer to a decision after being torn between his finalists for the past few weeks.

— Since King was forced to abandon his initial plan of announcing a decision last month before the Elite 11 Finals, he hasn’t revealed a revised timeline for a possible commitment. All signs still have pointed to King making a decision as quickly as possible, though, and ideally announcing it sometime before his senior season. Multiple sources have indicated this week that he now wants to pick a school sometime this week, although it’s not clear exactly when — or how — he will announce his choice.

— By all accounts, King still has been primarily deciding between Texas A&M and Tennessee. During his time at the Elite 11 Finals and The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas, he continued to refer to his four finalists — Texas A&M, Tennessee, Duke and Auburn — in discussing why he was so torn that he wasn’t ready to make his choice. But the Aggies and Vols were believed to be the front-runners at the time, and nothing has changed in that regard.

— King has stayed in contact with Tennessee’s coaches, led by quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke, over the past few weeks, and there has been no indication to this point that he has tipped his hand to the Vols or informed them of a decision. His conversations with Tennessee generally have been positive, and the Vols’ strong relationship with King and his father, Longview coach John King, have given them some optimism at times that they still might be able to beat out Texas A&M for him. But the draw of staying closer to home and playing for the Aggies remains a legitimate concern for Tennessee.

— Sources in Texas now have started to hear some buzz suggesting that King ultimately might pick the Aggies. Some close to his recruitment even believe he already has made a decision and he might be ready to announce his choice this week, which aligns with what sources have suggested about his possible timeline. If he has arrived at a decision, it’s not clear whether he already has informed any of the coaches recruiting him of his choice. But after a couple weeks of mostly silence, during which King and his family spent some time on the lake in Louisiana, it’s worth noting there’s now some buzz pointing toward one of his finalists. And it’s Texas A&M that seems to have emerged as the favorite.

— If Tennessee indeed misses out on King, the Vols still have some options in their pursuit of another quarterback who could be added to their roster by next year. King has been their top target at the position for months, and they don’t appear to be seriously in play for any other Class of 2020 quarterbacks at the moment. But that always could change, and if King picks the Aggies, it will be worth watching to see whether Tennessee extends any other offers or tries to re-enter the picture for any quarterbacks, including players who currently might be committed to other schools. It’s still entirely possible that the Vols could wait until next year and explore the transfer market.

Either way, they want to add another scholarship quarterback by next year. And even if they ultimately decide to go the transfer route, keep in mind that they will need to have a spot available under the annual 25-signee limit to add even a transfer or a graduate transfer. That means they will need to reserve a spot for a quarterback either way, barring a change of plans at the quarterback position.

at some point, do they not just consider dropping the 2nd QB for the 20 class? i mean there's probably a lot in play here. what does JG do at the end of 19? does the staff already know those plans? if he stays for the 20 season, that really lessens the urgency for NEEDING another qb in this class. we'll have 3 on the roster this season, and 4 next. add 2 in 21 (be it by transfer and HS recruit or both HS recruits) to get up to that 4/5 number. and then you go after the top of your board in 22.

in the end, i do think a lot of this is dependent on what JG does, and whether or not they already have that decision, or strong inkling of what that decision will be, in hand.

So many unknowns with JG, possibly even to him, they may feel the need to be prepared.
Add in the decision of who loses out on the back-up spot this year...
We are low depth wise at least when I look at our rivals' charts.

But honestly, I'm clueless.

JG plays throughout the season (as he did last year) and Shrout’s the backup with Maurer able to play in four and keep his redshirt...ideal scenario. No one would be higher in the pecking order to eventually succeed JG. If Guarantano has a promising season, I see him coming back to improve on it. That would allow Bailey to redshirt and no one’s gone in front of him...effectively 4 deep. The next season will be when it all comes to a head...and we’ll have a top line 2021 to add to the mix with most likely two transferring.

I like it!
Even makes the most sense to me, it's the mindset of young Alpha males that the coaches may be concerned with😄

Haven’t really looked. How deep is UGA’s depth chart with Fields gone? Tua has two true freshmen backing him up. If Florida is loaded, I wonder why Franks is favored to return as a starter. Kelly Bryant and who at Mizzou? I don’t even know Vandy’s starter. Kentucky... There’s not really a deep team...quarterback wise in all of college football that immediately comes to mind.

I'm afraid the way it's going with transfers that having 4 QBs will end up being a luxury in the future.

I'll try to look later, took the lazy route. Picked a couple of qb recruits and looked at the the numbers listed for "at and committed", for the schools listed.

Our totals were just lower than others. Didn't do any in depth looks, just the overall amount.

at least 1 transfers for sure. but yeah, this is basically how i see it as well. at leat another year away, maybe 2, from really needing to nail down the next qb's of the future....should be 3-4 deep the next 3 years.
