And the guys following that leader dont mind seeing that guy compete against another talented guy that may be good enough to lead them as well. It's the nature of the position, you know that. Only one on the field means only one leader, the field general all must follow into battle, etc. That's why you see so many qb transfers and that was before the portal was a thing. We are short on qbs on the team right now so I see taking two as a good idea but I understand and am ready for the two-party bickering if we get King.
For the first time ever, The Opening Finals will be missing a five-star quarterback. Clemson commit DJ Uiagalelei has opted not to participate and while that won’t hurt his standing in the national rankings, it certainly opens the door for some of the other names of note to make a run at the top spot.
THE LEAD PACK
Heading into the event, 247Sports has two attendees ranked inside our top 32 players for the class of 2020: USC commit Bryce Young out of California and uncommitted Haynes King out of Texas. If you're placing bets, those are the guys we’re riding right now as the most likely future first rounders. Both are athletic, both are state champions, both are incredibly productive and efficient. King, who has visited Duke, Auburn, Tennessee and Texas A&M this summer, is the bigger, higher-upside prospect while Young is riding the success of Kyler Murray as another undersized but talented quarterback that has the look of an elite talent.
Both Young and King sit outside the five-star realm heading into the event but because of their current rank and their validation on the field in pads, both could earn that fifth star with a knock-out performance in Texas.
KEEPING PACE
Behind Young and King is a group of prospects that have been in the lead pack since the initial class of 2020 rankings. Tennessee commit Harrison Bailey has been extremely productive as a thrower but it’s his feet, and not his arm, that need further vetting. Ohio State commit Jack Miller was considered potentially the top quarterback in the country after his freshman season. He's since been jumped, but remains in the discussion. Texas commit Hudson Card, a former wide receiver, will be one of the better movers in Texas where he’ll attempt to show he has the arm talent of the other elite passers. Georgia commit Carson Beck and South Carolina commit Luke Doty both emerged as juniors with huge seasons. Doty may be the most athletic quarterback in the country so any way he can further elevate himself as a passer only adds to his value. Beck, coming off of his first full year as a starter, will have a chance to shed some more light on what appears to be a steep trajectory.
two quarterbacks who are very good football players--enough to start at any program in the country--who will play on the same college team and compete. It is a WIN WIN situation for the Vols. Both kids very good in different ways... will be a fun competition to watch if King becomes a vol
how on earth did we become so negative that this mere possibility is criticized so harshly...?
Why the F do Bailey’s legs need vetting? Are they not attached? Dumbest crap I’ve ever heard, he’s a Fing pocket QB, probably the best one in the country and these DAs are wanting to elevate him on his legs.
I don't think they're talking about his ability to scramble. Sounds more like they question his footwork in the pocket. Which is very important for a pocket qb. Brady has incredible footwork but can't run at all. I have no idea if bailey has bad footwork or not. Just saying that's how I interpret their comments. Why the F do Bailey’s legs need vetting? I assumed his footwork was included in the camp contests that he keeps winning, but idk.I don't think they're talking about his ability to scramble. Probably is but doesn't mean it wouldn't be a concern even if he does win the camp. I don't really know though. Just how I interpret what they said. Really doesn't matter though. Everyone knows he's good whether 247 bumps him or not.I assumed his footwork was included in the camp contests that he keeps winning, but idk.
There is still nothing new here. They don't report to Frisco until 2 pm Friday, so he could wait all the way up until then. He REALLY wants it done before that but it's also still not out of the question that he decides to push it back.
I think we will hear something today, but no guarantees.
Let’s put this on the table for you guys.
1-HB isn’t immobile he is a 4.7 kid not a track kid so he hasn’t spent 100’s of hour learns to run a 40 yard dash. A.Glibert ran the same 40 time as HB. He plays in a Pro style offense in High School. No reason to have to run when you can simply shuffle up or to the side and drop a dime.
2- He played THE 7th toughest schedule in all of High school football last year per MaxPreps. While avg 330 yds per game and 4 tds. With his offensive line giving up an avg 45 pounds per contest.
3- Good chance his team wins state if he doesn’t break his collarbone in the first half of the 9th game of the season!
4- He has played some the toughest completion in America while averaging 300 yds a game and 63% comp percentage for his career.
5- Go to his game tape every team we play he has to throw passes into 6 to 8 man coverages. Every team has 1 game plan when they play Marietta it’s to stop the pass. Not many can! If you avg 35 points a game and the D gives up 40 it’s the QBs fault?
These empty comparisons of King, Manning and T.Lawrence are stupid. HBs stats ARE BETTER than T. Lawrence with HB playing way way tougher comp! Btw if HB plays 15 games this year and hits his avg he will miss T.Lawrance’s all-time passing record by around 800 to 900 yds while playing in 20 less games. So you say HB isn’t and elite passer. STATS don’t lie or have an opinion Sir!

Mr. Spare timeVirtually everyone recognizes Bailey is elite. Im no scout but I think his ranking (only a .94xx composite is comical)
While I’d celebrate a King commitment, I also recognize we’re in good hands regardless. I have absolute faith that Bailey can get this team where we want to go. And I love how his blood seemingly runs orange - committing early and taking on the role of class leader.
That said, I also recognize how critical it is we take two QBs. JG could leave after this year via draft or grad transfer. I like Mauers intangibles but don’t have much faith that Shrout is a winning SEC QB. We need 2 QBs.
I’d rather the 2nd guy be King than some JUCO kid or some project.
If there are people trying to discredit what HB has accomplished or question his talent while propping King then its best to just not pay them any attention.
We probably got off on the wrong foot because truthfully you come off pompous like you know what every recruit is doing and I’m not exactly Mr Congeniality - but it’s fairly obvious you’ve got some connection to HB. Take solace in the fact that 98% of VN that pays an ounce of attention to recruiting knows how good the kid is and how important he is to the teams future.
Hey man most every one here is with you. There will always be those few that feel the only way to win is through a dual threat QB but to be honest I think Harrison can run fast enough to do any and every thing we will ever need him to and his arm talent is much better than king's. Not to say King has a bad arm, just saying HB has one of the most accurate arms I have seen in forever.Let’s put this on the table for you guys.

Your writing style, depth of actual facts, and non-commital final opinions...it reminds me of some websites.Yep. Longer it goes less chance we get him.
We were still leading coming out of the visit to A&M but they’ve stayed on him. Extremely appealing to Texas kids to play for a major instate program. A&M has some playmakers already in place and Fisher has a good history of elite offenses. The relationship with Chaney and Weinke was winning it over but it’s hard to pull a Texas kid when he’s getting pressured from all sides to stay home. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him choose Tennessee but I think this is starting to tilt In A&M’s favor.
