Yep, ideally you bring in one per class, that way they feel like ‘the man’ and the bell cow for the recruiting class. Keep saying QB mentality is just different. Was asked Tuesday by a couple Bama guys this week if I thought King would pick UT. Told them I wasn’t sure, seems to want UT but is the distance too far? I asked them why, they are of the opinion they take a swing at Bailey if King commits. They have been trying to flip Bryce Young but BY seems to be losing interest in going anywhere but USC.Just saying it’s never been a boon to depth...despite conventional opinion. Have already stated I’m cool with one stud per class. Really intrigued by Shadeuer Sanders in the 21 class. He could redshirt during Bailey’s redshirt freshman season and there’s a plausible succession line along with taking a flier on lower rated QB’s depending on transfers or declaring early. The elite programs seem to follow that plan.
Tennessee continues to wait for word from 4-star quarterback Haynes King, who is mulling a decision between the Vols and the Texas A&M Aggies. King really likes UT coaches Chris Weinke and Jim Chaney, and the high-upside QB believes in the development potential of Tennessee’s staff. Several UT player continue to work hard on King, too.
Ultimately, the the Longview quarterback is legitimately torn on a decision. He’s weighing Chaney’s track record of developing QBs vs. Jimbo Fisher’s track record, as well as distance from home.
Regardless how the King battle plays out, the Vols are looking to add two quarterbacks in the 2020 cycle. They’ll either add King or look to explore the transfer market after the 2019 season. They want to add two new quarterbacks to the room next fall, as Jarrett Guarantano could opt to go pro following this season. They also want to protect themselves in case of a transfer
Thought you had lost faith in VQ and was going to let your sub go. Good news you have renewed devotion to their guessing."Regardless how the King battle plays out, the Vols are looking to add two quarterbacks in the 2020 cycle. The good news is even if King picks A&M we still get to argue over taking a 2nd QB!
JG going pro? In what sport??
Do not see him transferring. The kid loves UT, and if he has a big year this year, he will either go Pro or finish here his RS Senior year. There have been enough statements about JG either going pro or that he's already graduated and could transfer to lead me to believe that he intends to leave one way or the other. He's been through a lot and I hope he has a good enough season to be considered for the NFL draft.
I agree. I believe he and Chaney are planning on a big year out of this offense and JG will leave early and get drafted. As @Nashvegas31 pointed out, he's got all the tools just need better OL play and coaching. He should get those this fall. Look what Chaney did with Crompton and Bray. I believe Chaney is going to make JG into a 3-5 round draft pick. There have been enough statements about JG either going pro or that he's already graduated and could transfer to lead me to believe that he intends to leave one way or the other.
