'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

He's probably looking at a RS year at aTm, too. So he and his father are looking for the best path to starting his second year. I just don't think distance is the main consideration. If HB weren't already committed, I think King would have committed to UT a while back.

It’s over

That’s an interesting take. Good for you standing by your opinion, I don’t agree with any if it, but kudos for digging in. Just a couple notes however. When TL was deciding, UT was on the upswing, did have talent on the roster and just finished up their 2nd straight season with 8 wins regular season when he picked CU. UT didn’t finish in his top two, they started as his top choice since childhood. Dude has/had Manning posters all over his wall. Entire family full of Vol fans. Not a secret, look at his thread and I mentioned everything above. So, what took UT OUT of consideration? Butch Jones, his dad said he wouldn’t go there with Butch as HC.

Disagree on his HS teams as well, I can tell you Joey King will vehemently disagree that Lawrence was a byproduct of those around him. King will tell you, TL carried the team the entire time he was there.

There is a local Knoxville radio host, about whom people on this board have mixed opinions, who has told the story many times about Lawrence's official visit to UT. Supposedly, Bob Welton, who was Butch's lead off the field recruiting guy, took the family aside and told them on no uncertain terms that TL didn't fit what they were doing on offense, and that he would be well-advised to look elsewhere. TIFWIW

On a related note, in 2009 Lane Kiffin ran off Taj Boyd (who had committed to Fulmer) as well, so Clemson has benefited greatly from Tennessee's lack of foresight on QB's over the last decade.

and WR's

Any chance Freak could set up a thread for unprovable arguments and p..... contests? That way the rest of us wouldn't have to wade through pages of playground crap to find the occasional post that's on topic.

That is the whole board. It would be the only thread that ever updated.

What a fricking idiot. On the other hand, he was kinda right because TL is a winner not a LOSER. Pass up on one of the highest rated HS QB's in recent history. No wonder we are at the bottom of the SEC.....QB's like TL don't come around very often.

Told Bryce Petty to look elsewhere too.

You should rewatch the title game
I would tell you the same. TL threw 3 tds. He was good. What you don’t realize is I’m not debating his abilities as a qb for Clemson. I’m debating his overall rating out of HS and his abilities as a qb had he came to UT. A generational player is a game changer and he wouldn’t have changed much at UT if he has trouble throwing under pressure. Not a skill one would expect the highest rated qb in 247 history to lack. So I tell you the same. You should rewatch the title game and pay attention to the FEW times he was pressured. Come back and remind us how it went for those that seem to have such a short memory or those that think my opinion holds no weight.

yeah, he good. good enough to unseat an incumbent on a nationalt title contender.

i get that Clemson has a bunch of talent around him, and that helps everyone look better. i get that angle.

but on a team full of alphas..............he took the job from the vet......that's how good he is...on the best team in the country, he took the other guy's job. as a freshman.

I thought that title belonged to left tackles but hey..... evidently I don’t know what I’m talking about.
There's not a left or right tackle in the top 30 salaries in the league. Only 3 in the top 50. There are a lot of qbs and pass rushers though. A third of the top 30 are guys who are known for pressuring the qb.

I don't think distance is the main fact at all. But I do believe if we're tied after everything else is considered, it will a little factor that will break the tie. *Only then, but that makes sense, couldn't blame him.
All other things equal, I'd want my family to have an easier situation.

Yep, makes sense. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll end up needing a tiebreaker. But we have an elite QB committed and he's peer recruiting hard for us, so we're good.
