'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

The fact that JG was rated as a dual-threat was stupid to begin with.

His high school stats: 251 carries, 523 yards, 12 TDs, 2.1 YPC

You know who had a better yard per carry average than him and half the amount of rushing touchdowns on about a third of the carries? Quinten Dormady, who was rated as a pro-style QB.

Dormady's stats: 83 carries, 223 yards, 6 TDs, 2.7 YPC

Go back and watch JG’s high school film. He had some incredible runs. I think his problem is an overall lack of confidence in himself. Hopefully Chaney and weinke can help him with that

I remember “discussing” these stats with Breakerboy. 🤣

This is it to me. His First starts and snaps along with a majority of games last year he would look almost scared out there. Of course he was getting regularly murdered by the defense. I think he takes a big jump this year though.

agreed.

how many others on this board believe JG had to be thrown in the mix too early?

due to the porous OL he was regularly crushed. this affected his psyche and physical health a great deal.

given these athletes have access to team psychiatrists on the regular to build them back up we can only hope he can overcome the mental and physical beating and become confident again with a better team around him to succeed in this league.

Hopefully that starts by not getting absolutely destroyed on the first play of the game like against WV lol

I think they threw him in too early . I also think they gave him very limited playbook. He has too break out of the ultra cautious mode the last staff ingrained in him. Chaney will build him up. He has the arm now he needs to make teams fear it.

Confidence? Really?

I'm not committed enough to the cause to actually look anything up, but we've seen him get caught from behind by defensive tackles.

He's got the body type to be a dual threat. He's slim and built like an athlete.

He's also slow as molasses. That's why he's not a dual threat.

Heltons playbook was screen pass, curl route and short out routes that was it

Maybe we were watching different games.

I saw JG getting absolutely crushed and never once looked like he gave a damn about the hits. I'm fairly confident Pruitt was hoping he would finally get hit so hard he would move his feet.

QBs who are scared take off and run the first chance they get, they don't stand there like a statue. Take a look at David Carr's NFL career and see if it is like JG or the complete opposite.

The best mental quality JG has shown at his time here is toughness. Suggesting he played scared out there seems like the most asinine excuse you could make for the guy.

If they are throwing at similar angles, similar distances, neither will get there materially faster. Nobody is throwing 60 yard darts 10 feet off the ground.
They will and that really matters. Doesn’t matter if it’s on a line or not. Whoever’s gets there with more power, velocity, speed usually dis a good indicator of arm strength. Scouts watch these things I promise.

So you are debating well-established physics? Ok. I guess the disagreement will have to end here. Take it up with science.

Agree. It's insane for anyone to claim JG is "scared." Dude is one of the least rattled QBs I've ever seen in my life.

As to why he's not much of a threat running the ball, I don't know. I think in 2017, he'd taken so many hits that it harmed his mobility. But he didn't look too mobile in 2018 either. He ran around a 4.5 40 back in high school, but who knows how all those hits have impacted his speed. Also worth noting that most of our RBs looked much worse than they really were last year due to the O-line, so possible that JG just looks like a poor runner because the O-line couldn't block.

Regardless, when compared to Dobbs, I think JG is better passer, but doesn't have as good instincts with his legs.

Just got back from a week at the beach but looks like King followed a handful or so A&M commits/players over last week. That sucks. Hopefully it means nothing.
