Quite a few coaches want the phones off an hour before game, that’s pretty common, I’ve never heard of this being a thing, especially actually taking the phone a full day in advance knowing he has an ailing grandmother.I’m not criticizing the coach but someone provide the logic on why the players would not be allowed to keep their phones with them ?
You seem to never... ever get tired of being wrong, do you?Well it's true. They don't call it the Fulmer cup for nothing.
It definitely wasn’t an isolated incident, but it’s also a bit overboard for high school coach to demand a kids phone. People acting like we live in a black and white world where ppl are either good or bad and there’s no in between are ridiculous. If a kids got talent you take the risk and hope you and your staff can straighten it out. Sometimes they work out and other times they don’t. Every SEC team takes these risks. But de1 said he is a TX-NPA kid and therefore an amazing kid who is getting treated unfairly by his coaches. And we know de1 never blindly takes up for his kidsNo coach invents a BS reason to suspend one of the top players in the country from an important game. In fact, for a coach to make that decision means this was not an isolated incident and not trivial.

From a Houston-area paper:
“...The North Shore Mustangs were asked to give up their phones last night to focus on their much-anticipated rematch with Duncanville.
Everyone complied. Zach Evans did not. He was asked repeatedly. He would not.
Knowing coach Jon Kay, athletic director Vivian Dancy and superintendent Dr. Angi Williams, every "I" was "dotted" and every "T" was crossed. Galena Park ISD is first class and always does the "right" thing.
According to sources close to the situation, the decision went up the chain-of-command and the decision was made. Zach Evans, the nation's top recruit, was sent home.
Keep in mind, this is not an isolated incident. Evans was suspended earlier in the season for three games. It was handled in-house....”
Sure... we all agree... he's not coming here...Still not coming to UT
Blah blah blah. Still not coming to UT.Sure... we all agree... he's not coming here...
But LOL at a high school coach getting so angry at a kid for not complying to his ridiculous demand that he suspends from a championship game...
Stupid rules are stupid... kid's grandma is sick... leave him alone
Coach makes weird communistic demand so team could "focus" better and lost his best player in the process... Way to show him, coach!
Evans'll be to picking up lunch tabs more expensive than that coach's annual salary in 3 years![]()
And? Why are coaches rounding up phones in the first place? I really don't care that he was the only one that didn't comply, it's a dumb rule and a stupid reason to suspend a player.
That being said, I realize this is part of a trend of insubordination for him, which is red flag. But this situation by itself is making a mountain out of a molehill.
Yeah the whole he is an amazing kid bc he is part of npa made me laugh too.
Wish we could downvoteLike i said before outside of Mike Sawyers show me a problematic NPA kid. We police and groom our kids. We stay on them from the time we get them to the time they graduate. When Lyle called because Martinez and Gordon had issues we pulled up resolved it he graduated and is doing well. We've set a standard and will maintain that. The kid had a family sickness in which he wanted to kp the phone. Guys in the NFL don't even gv up their phones before game day. This was bafoonery on the HC and he knew Zach wasn't needed due to the star of Duncanville being hurt. So guess what say what you want but until you have facts you're just yappin my friends. #1 Rb in the land and can name his landing spot and every team in America would take him TODAY.
