I would like this post about 100 times if I could.
Not too long ago I had an employee with very good experience and skill. He had a cancerous attitude, was dishonest, and undercut coworkers to advance his personal agenda. I had people tell me that our business would actually collapse without him. We counseled him. Counseled him again. Then shocked him and pretty much everyone else when I made the decision to let him go.
The team got stronger in very short order. The other guys were motivated by the move. They stepped up and blossomed in ways no one thought they could.
A talented guy with a cancerous attitude is ALWAYS bad for a team. The more talent usually the more destructive.
No, it is not the coach’s job to be an enabler. Best thing I ever did for my work force was to fire a cancer. Only then I realized just how much stress that one person caused to the rest of my workforce. My department went from one of the lowest performing units in the region to the highest performing unit. That one person was killing our synergy. There is no “I” in teamAs a boss or coach it’s your job to bring in the best talent available and then get the most out of them. A good coach or boss knows how to get the most out of their employees or players, even if that means working around attitudes. Though, this analogy doesn’t really work since it’s acting like 17-18 year old kids have the same maturity of adults. Every team has brought these type of kids in. Bryce Thompson had more baggage than Evans and Pruitt didn’t seem to care. If someone is truly elite, like a 5* talent, your bring them in and have your coaches do what they’re paid to do.
Hotel Phones not working?Like i said before outside of Mike Sawyers show me a problematic NPA kid. We police and groom our kids. We stay on them from the time we get them to the time they graduate. When Lyle called because Martinez and Gordon had issues we pulled up resolved it he graduated and is doing well. We've set a standard and will maintain that. The kid had a family sickness in which he wanted to kp the phone. Guys in the NFL don't even gv up their phones before game day. This was bafoonery on the HC and he knew Zach wasn't needed due to the star of Duncanville being hurt. So guess what say what you want but until you have facts you're just yappin my friends. #1 Rb in the land and can name his landing spot and every team in America would take him TODAY. In the famous voice of my man Bey Bey Orgeron #GeauxTigers or as an SEC fan #SEC #SEC
Who wants this crap on their team? I hope this cancer goes to UGA..he is a good player, but we know and have seen first hand what cancerous rot like this selfishness does to a program. From a Houston-area paper:
“...The North Shore Mustangs were asked to give up their phones last night to focus on their much-anticipated rematch with Duncanville.
Everyone complied. Zach Evans did not. He was asked repeatedly. He would not.
Knowing coach Jon Kay, athletic director Vivian Dancy and superintendent Dr. Angi Williams, every "I" was "dotted" and every "T" was crossed. Galena Park ISD is first class and always does the "right" thing.
According to sources close to the situation, the decision went up the chain-of-command and the decision was made. Zach Evans, the nation's top recruit, was sent home.
Keep in mind, this is not an isolated incident. Evans was suspended earlier in the season for three games. It was handled in-house....”
..But de1 said he is a TX-NPA kid and therefore an amazing kid who is getting treated unfairly by his coaches. And we know de1 never blindly takes up for his kidsNo coach invents a BS reason to suspend one of the top players in the country from an important game. In fact, for a coach to make that decision means this was not an isolated incident and not trivial.
This is stupidity..I don't understand why people are trying to make this kid out to be some diva thug cause he wouldn't give a coach his cell phone... he's extremely talented, had a HS Coach with Napoleon syndrome, and I wish him the best wherever he goes...
It's childish and petty to cut kids down and label them for refusing to comply to ridiculous demands... certainly not the face forward our fan base should be projecting
... I'd also take that bet @VolFreakJosh with -insert whatever school he picks that isn't UTK-
Merry Christmas
I don’t know the intent behind the rule, but he was the only player to refuse to follow the coach’s request. There were a lot of rules in school and sports that I didn’t agree with, but you were still expected to follow them. His previous 3-game suspension this season most likely played into the final decision as well.
As the saying goes, if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?
I acknowledged the 3 game suspension too. That doesn't change the fact that this particular instance was extremely trivial. Kinda like the Iverson practice interview. People are making a huge deal out of something extremely trivial.
We can just agree to disagree. Following the team rules for away games is not a trivial issue to me. The coach is responsible for ~30 or more players as they travelled from Houston to DFW and set a standard expectation for the players to ensure their safety and their preparation for a state championship. One player decided to not follow the established rules and was sent home. This is the same player that was previously suspended for three games this season for undisclosed violation of team rules. None of us know exactly what went into the decision to suspend him for the final game, but I support the coach for his willingness to hold players accountable for their decisions and actions. As the saying goes, if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?

Why was it a stupid rule? Because you don’t like it. There a lot of “stupid rules” in life. No excuse to refuse to comply.

Unfortunate that ZA was suspended for the championship game. But, I don't see how the North Shore coach could know that ZA wasn't needed to win against Duncanville, the top team in the entire state! Duncanville wasn't a one man team, either. Neither was North Shore.
Also, would be interested to hear what ZA did to draw the 3 game suspension.
How is taking their method of communication with family ensuring their safety?
My kids are instructed that their phones are their property and NOBODY takes it from them other than me or their mother.
They also know when and when not to use them. This coach sounds like a tyrant that needs to learn boundaries...sounds like he had an issue with the kid.
What about that was stupidity? People get selectively petty with teenagers just because they're projected to go somewhere else... that is stupidity... if this kid was projected to come to UT, there wouldn't be one person in this thread condemning this kid for keeping his cell phoneThis is stupidity..

Whoa now... we're talking about a cell phone... not an AR-15
Whoa now... we're talking about a cell phone... not an AR-15
If you can put up an argument that an AR-15 has the same likelihood of being weaponized as a cell phone, then kudos... otherwise all of that was completely irrelevantNot to get into a gun debate but always like informing people when AR15 gets tossed around....
For the uneducated: AR15 is not an assault rifle. The AR does not stand for assault rifle. It shoots the same bullets as 100s of other rifles. It cannot shoot faster than other guns (without illegal accessories like bump stocks). The only thing an AR may have is a high capacity magazine, meaning more bullets to shoot before having to reload. Reloading takes about 5 seconds max. The entire debate over banning AR15s is built on misinformation and media bias.
This request was made off school campus at a hotelRead carefully, purposely did not reference guns or knives, but if you don't think rocks, or maybe marshal arts weapons not specifically called out in policies have not been brought into schools you need to go back and check with some schools. Rock in a sock comes to mind.
Phones can become problems.... maybe they should make exceptions for non-smartphones or these new gizmos that have menu based communication and tracking capabilities but no photo or general dialing capabilities. Maybe a phone dock in each classroom for those that feel compelled to have them in proximity. But until then they need to comply.
