I hope we get this guy. He would be a great replacement for Javonta Payton. But, taking 4 WRs from high school and this guy (potentially), says the coaches aren't very confident with who's on the roster currently.
I believe that theory is pretty common knowledge. It is one reason you saw such a limited rotation of regular guys, this year.

No it doesn’t. It means you load up on as many talented options as possible. Bama is about 3-4 deep in 5 star RBs. They took Gibbs.
It does when your numbers are limited and you still need pieces on defense.

I agree, look to upgrade everywhere, all the time, no matter what; but, 5 WRs in one cycle is a lot. I'm all for talent influx and competition; though, I do wonder what Heupel and Burns think of Holliday and others at WR. Isn't there some chatter of Holliday to DB?

Everybody’s numbers are limited and there are no dearth of suitors whenever an elite defensive player becomes available. We NEEDED much more last off-season but still took Payton. In retrospect was that a mistake?

That’s what VQ’s hinting.

What took the NFL guys so long to figure this out when

VNation has known this for years?!
That’s the thing about star ratings, they don’t do a good job of measuring a kid’s… motor. (Was gonna say heart, but too soon after Butch’s coach speak).

That last sentence/ question is cryptic

Is AP just saying that’s the open question for Tennessee’s staff?

…or does AP wonder whether he has dirt on the Vols that he may spill in the coming weeks?!?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Be interesting to see if one or two of those in the 4 deep jump in the portal after their last game. Get the ring and get gone.....

If that is the case some of our guys will change positions or hit the portal I WOULD THINK. Probably not a secret in the room.

Never said taking this kid (or any of the new receivers) would be a mistake. I was just stating that we may not even be able to sign a full 25. My question is if there is more confidence (from the coaches) in what we have coming back on defense (LB, DB) than there is in our WR room?

More likely to sign more than 25.

Hopefully they're just stacking depth. Sure, we have other needs, but we don't know what the coaches may have on the line right now for those, or what progress and improvement they might have reason to expect from players on the current roster.

If we have another mass exodus, then the state of the program is not what we've been lead to believe.
Depends on what constitutes the “mass”. Emerson, Middleton and Gooden (who hadn’t played in two seasons) were highly replaceable…and we did. Upgraded even! I know he’s already announce his return, but an “exodus” of Solon Page level athletes bodes well for said state of program.

I'm big on loyalty and kids who 'give their all" for Tennessee. Solon Page falls into that category.
