Ned: Hey Jimmy, hey John, hey Brent how you fellers doing today?

John: Just fine and yourself?

Ned: Good, good. Hey listen fellas how is UT supposed to compete with Saban and the dawgs when the only players we can get are hand me downs from Wyoming and Albany? It just don’t seem Huepel can recruit no good. I’ll hang up and listen.

John: Sure do appreciate it Ned. Brent?
You meant Jerry from Bull's Gap

The NCAA created a rule that says transfer players enrolling in a school mid-term (January) can take an official visit to any school (they have 5 visits) as long as the school they are visiting starts the spring semester within a week of the visit.

That rule doesn’t help Tennessee as they start school on Monday the 24th and the dead period ends January 13th.

But that rule is why Wyoming transfer receiver Isaiah Neylor is visiting Southern Cal this week and is not scheduled to visit Tennessee until after the dead period ends. Southern Cal starts classes on Monday. After visiting USC, he is supposed to visit Texas before coming to Knoxville if he even makes it to Rocky Top.

He simply may be forced to decide on a school or lose his spot at that school if he doesn’t before he can ever visit Knoxville. If he makes it to Knoxville then Tennessee’s chances improve dramatically because other drop and adds will have come and gone.

Hope we survive the visit. Sounds like he either enrolls at SoCal and never visits us or waits and visits Knoxville, effectively eliminating them.

Not sure the reasoning here. He can enroll after classes begin, as long as it’s before the drop/add deadline. I’m sure the family understands that.

I don’t think this changes anything. He can still visit all 3 and make a decision amongst the three.

That’s not the way I read the VQ update. They are saying the other schools drop/adds will have come and gone before he can visit UT, unless he tries to squeeze all 3 trips in very quickly. The UT visit is scheduled for the weekend of the 21st.

I'm still not giving up on Merrill underneath or in 3rd & short situations

Merrill for sure…I’m also not ready to give up on Calloway and Hyatt…there’s too much speed and agility with those two…if they can get their heads on the same level as Tillman then they could blow up next year

The article explicitly said “starts classes.” That’s different than the drop/add deadline, which is usually 7-10 days after classes start.

How do you interpret the last paragraph from VQ? It talks about drop/adds being done at other schools before he can visit here.

It’s conflicting. Either the writer isn’t distinguishing between “start of classes” and “drop/add deadline” as he should or he typed “start of classes” in an earlier paragraph when he meant “drop/add deadline.”

Baron is out of the portal and staying at Tennessee per multiple sources. Nothing is definitive for spring until he goes to class or other drop/add days pass but good news for the Vols. Now we wait on Verse. Hear there has been really good dialogue with Neyor coming off USC visit.
If he visits here then he’s a Vol IMO

He need only look at our offensive film. Not sure why he’d want to play in any other offense. Heupel’s offense doesn’t need perfection at the WR position to be effective. His talent would ball out in our scheme. I hope he’s seeing what we saw all year.

Regardless, that would be around the drop add deadline for USC when he visited Tennessee. He would essentially have to commit to the condoms on the flight to Knox.

The writer definitely leaves it vague enough to be misunderstood. I read it as the drop add dates at usc are passing before it is possible to visit us.
