Tyler Summitt and Mickie Demoss should be here next season

I've posted this before.
Tyler will never come near Knoxville unless he has proven to himself he can do produce/add to the tradition of Tennessee.

What people don't understand is, this isn't about a last name for him. He actually respects what his mom built. He saw with his own eyes of what she did, and what it took. He will not touch or come near until he know's himself that he will be able to add to what his mom did.

I feel for Holly because you can't replace CPS. You just can't. It would be easier to go to another school and make a name for yourself there. The replacement was picked based on: 1)had to be familiar/know the Tennessee Women's basketball way 2)Somehow be connected to CPS 3)Agree to never change how the program was ran. Holly was the one to do this.

I'm not saying it was right or wrong, but CPS wasn't going to bring in new blood, and why would you, she built a dynasty, she can do whatever she wants. Regardless, no coach would of been able to win a national championship with the roster we have had the last 3 seasons. So weather it be Holly, or someone else, this thread still exists. Holly has done well (post-season) with what she has to work with. This team would of been a final four team with Izzy last year, and then we would of been humiliated by UCONN. Please Lady Vols cream ETSU so we can shut some people up!

No, sick of this fire the coach post on this board.

They have a brand new team that has to find their way...plenty of time to allow these YOUNG Ladies to come together.

Spoken like someone who clearly hasn't watched this season. Helen Keller could coach fundamentals better at this point.

As long as Holly keeps averaging 28, 29, & 30 win seasons, they aren't going to replace her. So learn to love it.

Isn't Tyler Summit like 25 years old? I think that's awfully young for a program our size. Give him some time to gain experience before we anoint him. That's a ton of pressure to put on a kid.

Pat wasn't even 25 when she started coaching at UT!

Why do people think Tyler Summitt would be a good fit here? Is it simply based on his last name? He hasn't exactly blown the ceiling off the building at La Tech unless I'm missing something. Jody Adams gets my vote

There is no way we can prognosticate that Tyler will ride in on a white horse and save the day. If Holly gets into the tournament and makes it to the sweet 16 she will still be at Tennessee. If she screws up another recruiting year, I think she should be done as would the football and men's basketball programs' coaches. I think, this year, that double D saves the day. She is getting better and seems to be taking on the leadership of this team.

Just an observation but Holly needs to occasionally run an upper tempo offense, specially off defensive rebounds. We have the horses and sometime we need to let them run. When we slow the ball down and do that passing thing in hope of getting the ball inside, we are more inclined to make turnovers. Teams go to the zone defense and our offense becomes real iffy. Today in the last quarter we hit 6 threes. If we can build on that the inside will become wide open for Graves and Russell. Most of all Russell has to become a beast in the paint. She has to show that she owns the paint. She had 4 shots blocked by a player she towers over.

There were some good things that came out of the ETSU game we just need to build upon them.

I'm a fan of, and strong believer in, Coach Tyler Summit. I think someday he will be our head coach. SOMEDAY.

But you do realize that if Tyler became our head coach today, and followed exactly in his mother's footsteps, re-creating all her success, he would lead us to a National Championship in 2027!

The only coach in the world who could come to Knoxville and deliver the kind of immediate success too many Lady Vol fans are craving is Geno! That is the cold, repugnant, but-if-you-wanna-live-in-the-real-world TRUTH.

It is not a brand new team. They have some new players but most of them have been there 2-3 years. It is the same old excuse every year. Wait for them to come together. Well guess what....they never come together and it is all about coaching.

The Pat / Tyler Summitt love fest that exist on this site has become quite nauseating. Pat will always be considered the dean of women's college basketball. She made it relevant, at a time when it meant little to nothing to most, and will undoubtedly be a hall of fame coach, which she earned. That being said, the game clearly passed her by several years before she stepped aside. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly in denial. She was owned late in her career by not only Uconn, but ND, Baylor and others. It's way past time the UT women's program move ahead and stop living in the Summitt past.

I agree in part with this. So why then are we stuck with Holly Warlick as coach? If the game passed Pay by years ago, then it ran over Holly and never looked back

And no other coach in woman's basketball at that time was any older.

And no other woman's basketball coach new anything about basketball until Pat showed them!!!!!

There!!!!!

And Pat had to recruit players form whoever was around on campus way back in that day. There were no nationally televised games; extensive AAU and player development programs; recruitment rankings and so. Things have changed just a wee bit from when CPS was hired (while still in grad school I believe).

You sir are correct. She had to start from scratch and compete. Which she did.
She didn't get to start out with a storied program with 4 & 5 stars and regress. She could only go up.
Which she did.

they have came together and were playing some damn good basketball, till the injury bug bit them,it has happened every year to CHW and the Lady Vols, would Izzy have lead them to the promised land last year ?

who knows,I would have liked to see em give it a go,wouldn't ya'll ? it has been that way every year that she has coached so far

and there off to a bad start with injures this year once again,Nared is out,Dunbar is out,Jones has another concussion and it is still way early in the season

I just hope it doesn't get any worse and best wishes go out to Jasmine Jones, there is one player that gives her all for the Lady Vols,I do hope it isn't anything serious and she can make it back to the court quickly

let's just hope there isn't any more injures this year

It is hilarious to read most comments here and just see how clueless most people are. Amazing! I do think we have a lot of posters that throw ridiculous stuff out and check back every little bit to see reactions and laugh their heads off...only explanation I know....

We can also diminish a legend by exaggerating or adding to it.

When Pat began her coaching career Jody Conradt was 33 and already had 100 wins. She was a mentor to Pat in many ways. Pat built on Jody's foundation.

Everyone who succeeds stands on the shoulders of those who went before them. The next great women's coach will not stand on Pat's shoulders, but on the shoulders of those who have now succeeded Pat. Coaching "generations" pass much quicker than fan generations.

George Halas and Vince Lombardi would not be successful NFL coaches today. That does not diminish their place in history. It's not just that "the game" has changed, it's the players who continually change as society changes. Lots of moving parts in producing a championship team in any sport, any season. This is not fantasy league, so solutions will not be simple enough to fit in anyone's single post!

Wasn't Pat SUmmit like 25 years old, when she became the head coach? I think she was awfully young to run a program of our size. She had experience as a player at U.T. Martin and as a player in the Olympics but not as a coach. Being in the spot light at U.Tl is a ton of pressure to put on her at her age.

I just feel like Tennessee will never be "elite" under Holly, Tennessee is still a top 4 program no doubt but how long until change is needed to sustain that?

La Tech coaching staff! Tyler head coach Mickie associate head coach. By next year.Agreed?

Absolutely not. Giving the job to Tyler because of his name would be like giving it to Holly because of her loyalty. Has to be based on merit. Not name or loyalty.

I truly admire Tyler for not taking the easy route back here to Tennessee. He gained great assistant experience at Marquette, a world as far removed from his mother's legacy as possible. Now, as head coach, he's trying to rebuild a once-proud program in La Tech, Pat's first real nemesis ... brave and hopefully brilliant move.

Tyler will be the first to admit he's not ready to take on the responsibility of the Lady Vols yet, and he has too much respect and love for his Aunt Holly to even voice an opinion concerning the subject.

But don't kid yourself or doubt the fact he wants to be back home one day protecting, and hopefully improving upon, the legacy his pioneer mother built. He's only 25 and Holly is pushing 60, and obviously already showing signs of wear and tear with the ETSU sit-down, so Tyler will be the next LV head coach. As it should be.

Go Lady Vols!
